If you're 555, then I'm (powering up)...

66.666 SP!

Anyone know the lyrics I'm playing with here? ;)

Today is SPUD! And of course, I had to join in the fun!

To add my little weird twist to it. I decided to power up 66.666 SP.

Very interestingly, just yesterday, I celebrated hitting 66.66 rep

But why is the number recurring 6/666 significant to me?

Here's why:

For a good chunk of my life, I was a Christian fanatic.

Some of you may know that the Christian church teaches about the existence of the Devil, and have always created a lot of fear based around Satan and the Antichrist.

They consider the number 666 as the mark of the beast/used to invoke Satan/the symbols for the Antichrist. So of course, we stayed away from that number ;)

Having been brought up in this religion, and becoming extremely religious myself for some of my teenage years, there were many things I was strictly forbidden to do/explore/talk about.

One of the things I wasn't allowed to do then, was listen to certain types of music. Music of the devil, basically.

I listened to the band Slipknot for a while in my early teens. I owned their album "Iowa", which gave me a lot of musical pleasure for that time.

Well, when my church found out, I was told to burn the CD. And I did. Yup.

One of Slipknot's songs is The Heretic Anthem, with the infamous lyrics, "If you're 555, then I'm 666. What's it like to be a heretic?"

Not my favourite song of theirs, but I've always loved those lyrics.

And just so you know, I am totally non-religious now. I would definitely be considered a heretic. And I love it :)

So that's why I'm powering up 66.666 SP, because to me, it signifies my freedom, my unchaining from unnecessary control, guilt and shame.

I am all powered up and I am free ;)

Much Love from Red

Now that’s an interesting story indeed.
I didn’t expect to hear that was your background!

Burning the CD?! Wow.

My best pal/next door neighbour growing up was a Mormon. As children, his family religion never played a part of my opinion of him because he was proper into Slipknot, Powerman 5000, Chimera, Insane Clown Posse etc - some reasonably (for then) extreme albeit mainstream music.

Looking back I’m amazed his parents were so relaxed about his taste in music and film considering his thorough Christian upbringing!

Hahah yes I know, it's one of those surprising facts about my past, especially for people who've only met me in recent years :P

It really is funny how different every religious family can be! A lot of my religious friends had their "forbidden" passions and interests, but would just hide them all from their families and church. I did too, for many other things. So if your friend didn't have to do any of that, then damn, that is one awesome religious family he had! Good for him!

I prefer the Iron Maiden song "666 the number of the beast" maybe because it used to be and still is my favourite band. But I get the freedom declaration very well, I have done it in different ways in my youth as a rebel. Now everything is love including my love for rock music :)) life is peculiar in so many ways

I never liked Iron Maiden, I did try! But yea, I love my life full of Love and Freedom now, as you know :D

Nice spud-ing up Redrica 🙂

You're better off without the guilt of extreme forms of religion. One of my friends brothers went born again when his dad died and my friend came back from school one day to find his bro burning all his heavy metal CDs and t-shirts in the back garden. When you mentioned a song in relation to 66.666 I thought at first that you meant 'iron maiden - 666 the number of the beast' I used to listen to that song when I was like 13 years of age. Ha ha, showing my age here 😉

I also got into this SPUD thang with a 940 steem power up 🚀 and a sht tone of potato/spud related puns 😂

I'm thinking of opening a chippy with all these spud related posts on the Blockchain.

Yea I'm much more suited to a non religious lifestyle! Saying that, I do appreciate the experience of having lived a religious fanatic life!

Yea I saw your post, spuds... spuds everywhere :D
