How Magic Is a Vegan Magic Shell?

in #cannabis9 years ago (edited)

Pretty Damn magic, I'd say. Especially when it's made with cannabis infused coconut oil and you are pairing it with vegan ice cream and vegan cookies that are also medicated. :)

(Whew! That's a lot of medicating so if you are new to cannabis edibles, one of these sandwiches would contain approximately 5 doses and if you're a seasoned "eater" I'd say scarf down the whole wonderful thing and enjoy the ride!)

Then, this magic shell or thin chocolate coating makes for a perfect triad of medicated bliss.

The added bonus is that it can behave just like a "glue". This makes it an ideal substance to use when you need to hold other food items together or keep something from shifting around.

This glue-like feature is attributed to coconut oil which is the magic shell's main ingredient.

Coconut oil's seemly "magic" ability to solidify and instantly harden when it becomes cold, is attributed to the length of fat molecules which makes up its molecular structure. (File this fun fact in your "today I learned" file.)

Containing only 4 ingredients, this Magic Shell is completely suitable for any health-conscious individual. Plus, simply put, it's delicious to eat and only takes 2 minutes to prepare.

The ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup of coconut oil (melted);
  • 2 tsp of cannabis infused coconut oil (omit if you don't want to medicate the Magic Shell);
  • 4 tbsp of cocoa powder;
  • and 3 tbsp of maple syrup.

Directions:

  • Combine the coconut oil and cocoa powder with a small whisk or fork. Make sure the cocoa is well blended and there are no clumps.
  • Add the maple syrup and blend again.

That's it.

It's now ready to be drizzled over anything that goes with a slightly coconut-tasting chocolate. Like this:

This is the Vegan coconut ice cream on its own with magic shell drizzled over top.

(The recipe for it can be found here: https://steemit.com/food/@rebeccaryan/vegan-coconut-ice-cream-frozen-treats-dairy-grain-nut-and-egg-free-and-can-be-medicated-with-ease )

Once the magic shell is drizzled over the ice cream, it will start to harden and within 30 seconds will be a thin, but solid chocolate coating. Even the collection of magic shell that pools in the bottom of the serving dish will harden to a solid with the coldness of the ice cream.

For other desserts like my Vegan ice cream sandwiches you'll need to make both the ice cream and the cookie parts.

(The recipe for the cookies can be found here: https://steemit.com/food/@rebeccaryan/vegan-cookie-thins-medicated-with-platinum-banana-kush-cannabis-pulp )

Once you have all the components made, make a sandwich by using the ice cream as the filling between 2 cookies. I like to make these sandwiches and put them on a small baking sheet, lined with wax paper. I then drench each sandwich with magic shell. It will pool around the base of each sandwich, but once you put the tray in the freezer for 5 minutes, it will harden and you can easily lift the sandwiches off the wax paper and break off any unwanted chocolate. (Yeah, there's never really any unwanted chocolate, but it's easy to clean up the edges of any items being coated, once the shell gets cold and hardens.)

I welcome your comments and I invite you to follow me on my journey.

They look amazing! Love ice cream sandwiches! The last time I medicated a dessert, I added a bit too much I think. Coconut oil infused with RSO does make zzzz desserts. Ever since I stick with the non-medicated ones hehe!

Hi Amy!
These are actually 2 common challenges with medicated baking.
It's very tricky to get even disbursement through out a batch of edibles using an RSO because of how concentrated it is. The temperature of the batter and the mixing appliance that is being used are 2 factors. RSO can be runny or more wax like. A standard dose size in RSO is basically the size of a grain of rice. So, it's a lot harder to ensure equal quantities of it, end up in each finished piece or portion of whatever you are making. If you planned to produce 40 individual pieces, you would need 40 grains of rice worth of the RSO, warmed up in coconut oil and blended well in a blender, then blended into whatever batter you are making. :)

Thanks for the tip! We made our own RSO and the coconut oil was used to clean the pot and spoon with so it is hard to say how much you need since we don't know how much went into the coconut oil. I added it to a raw dessert. But now I know 1/2 tsp is too much. Didn't expect it was going to be so potent! Powerful stuff that's for sure.

LOL Amy! Yes!!! That's like a dose for 12 people when you are talking straight RSO.
The normal dose, (like I metioned) is the size of a grain of rice. Most people start with a 1/2 grain of rice size. ;)
It would be very hard to know how much the coconut oil clean-up absorbed.

Trial and error :) Now we know. Though the raw cake was fun, I'm more a fan of CBD oil but we can't find it here ;(

I'll have to save these recipes till the NZ summer, and maybe make a diary note so I remember to look for them then!

Thanks @kiwideb! Maybe one day, there will be an efficient way to search the Steemit/web data base to retrieve all these recipes that are getting added everyday. I feel like I am missing so much.

Wow! That certainly does sound magical! I would have to eat the whole thing in one sitting for sure!

I have calculated that one sandwich would come in at approximately 80 mg of THC. The industry standard per portion of medicated food item, whether it's a gummy candy or a cookie is 10 mg of THC. (Just for comparison. :))

Wow that is awesome... As a seasoned marijuana consumer, I would still like to eat the whole thing :) Unfortunately 10 mgs hardly phases me anymore! 80 on the other hand.... that would have me feeling lovely I am sure.

1 whole ice cream sandwich = The best sleep ever. LOL!

Another great recipe. In reading this, I have to wonder how hard is it for the chef to dose themselves if they are "licking the spoon" while preparing each product. I'm sure it requires some amount of discipline.

I want to thank you for sharing Green Flower Media with me. I really enjoyed last week's Thursday program. Unfortunately, it always seems that something comes up on Thursdays, so I have not been able to watch very many complete episodes. I will be signing up for membership when I am able to budget the cost. I also know that it will take away from my Steemit projects, the bulk of which are in my head.
Thanks again.

Great to hear from you @sighmanjestah!
You are most welcome. Green Flower is a great resource.
Yes , taste testing as you go is a hazard of the job. You do have to be somewhat careful otherwise the only thing that gets baked is the baker themselves. ;)
I am still interested in working with you if/when the time presents. :)

I am still interested in working with you if/when the time presents. :)

I am working at getting up to speed on all things medical related to cannabis and also trying to steemit, as well as a few other pressing projects. Not enough time in the day for me anyhow.

I completely understand and no pressure on my part at all. It's basically an idea, at this point.

Holy Moly .. that looks soooo good :D thanks Rebecca for making us all drool

Very good! I'm looking forward to seeing what you create @progressivechef. ;)

Cannabis infused coconut oil.
Sounds so rich and creamy haha.
This looks absolutely delicious especially with the complement of the vibrant colours from the fruits! :)

Thank you @arckrai!!!
It's a treat and really fairly easy to put together. It's pretty hard to go wrong with coconut, chocolate and maple syrup and lets not forget the cannabis! LOL!

Cannabis infused coconut oil? Wooow, sounds interesting :)
Thank you for this great vegan food inspiration ♥

Thanks for commenting @isshappy.
Once infused, coconut oil is an exceptionally versatile ingredient and lets you medicate pretty much anything that you would use coconut oil on or in.
It's a great carrier and fat source because cannabis is fat soluble. It requires fat to be absorbed.

Thanks for sharing this nice dish. it looks delicious 😋

Thanks for having a look @engraqin and thanks for commenting.
I can confirm that it is as delicious as it looks. :)

Nice ! Thanks for sharing
