i was born in the domain of the lion, ruled by the sun, under the watchful eyes of the lunar archer and the eastern scales.

i do not like to write about myself. it always seems too stilted, too awkward; to sing my own praises seems stuffy, to act as if i'm nothing is counter-intuitive. what, then, am i supposed to say? truly, i'd like to think that i’m not that interesting of a person; i’m an historian, a biblical scholar, an aesthete, and i’d like to fancy myself as a poetess, but all too often those right words evade me, so i don’t think i even deserve that mantle. say what you will, but i think that the cosmos - as mysterious and perhaps unreliable as they are - can paint a better picture of myself than i can, with their beast-shaped stars. perhaps they're nothing more than silver and gold studs in an unthinkable, unwavering expanse, vaulted high above our heads.

but i am a poet, and i like to think that there is something more to them, something more than coincidence and ancients assigning arrays of stars divine and ethereal names. perhaps i am drawn to the stars for that reason. there's something about them, something just so but just not, something omnipresent yet mysterious. it is the nature of the stars - between the prophetic and the mundane - that appeals to me so much. i try to convey such a sense with my words; a feeling of awe, interest, smallness and grandeur. that will be my goal.

i aim to write a poetry of longing; the feeling of summer rain, petrichor-tinged winds, low hanging fleecy clouds that make you feel tender and comfortable. damp warmth, fog, sweet early morning. lilacs, cedarwood, and existentialism. milk tea, incense, a midnight storm. the feeling of beauty, of comfort, of a deep and unshakeable, all-consuming dread.
