Grilled Squid with vegetables and natal plum glaze!
Last week I got some nice squids from my brother in law and it was since long that I did not prepare a dish based with them...
One of the most favorite dish that nearly all Mauritians love is crispy calamari but I did not want to make that again... So finally I went on creating a new dish using a glaze that I made from the Natal Plums that I presented to you some days back and some peppers, onion, garlic and herbs!
If you want to check out the series on Natal Plums, simply click on the below links! Part 4 will be out soon, stay tuned for it!

NATAL PLUMS : Part THREE - Natal Plums Pickles – My Style!!!
After cleaning and nicely cutting the squids, I simply marinated them with salt, pepper, chili powder , garlic powder, fresh thyme and olive oil!
Then I grilled them on the grill of my bistro at a very high temperature as they cook so quick and I wanted something grilled with a soft texture!
I put the side where I cut on the fire.
Less than 2 minutes later, it was already cooked!
It is so nice to see them curl like that when cooked...well it all depends how you cut them in the beginning!
Don't let the squid too much on the fire...they will be overcooked and get an elastic texture which is not good at all!!!
These are the other ingredients I used in making this squid dish! You can use any other vegetables you wish to!
I opted for yellow peppers, onions, garlic, coriander, chives and thyme! And of course the Natal Plum glaze - I will share how I made this glaze in some other post!
You just have to heat little olive oil in a pan and sauteed all the above vegetables!
I then added the grilled squid, which I cut as you can see below!
Toss well together and add some natal plum glaze!
Check the seasoning and add some more salt/pepper if needed! Again, don't cook for too long, maximum 1 minute in the pan and the dish is ready to be served!
As most of the food served in my bistro are taken away by guests, I simply transferred it in a take away box!
This is how I served this yummy dish to my guest!
Cooking this grilled squid with vegetables and natal plum glaze takes maximum 7-10 minutes and the result is just amazing!
I was so happy with the soft texture of the squid and the natal plum glaze just lifted this dish to a very high level!
All the guests who have had the chance to taste this one have given very positive feedbacks and I am looking forward to get some more squids to serve to my future guests in the days to come!

YUM! This looks absolutely divine!
I love squid but really the only way I've ever really eaten it is either breaded and fried or sliced up and cooked in a kimchi soup.
Goooood job
