GREED IS IDOLATRY

Great Minds,
Today, I want us to look at greed, how it pushes us from God and make us full of ourselves.

Greed simply means you you want something more than God. Most of us think of idolatry as pagan bowing down to an image carved from Stone or log, reciting incantations and performing certain rituals. But idolatry is more close to us than we realize. As simple as greed can push us away from God and more to ourselves. The Bible warns us against it; "Col 3: 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry"
One will be tempted to ask; does it mean it's wrong to want a newer car, a bigger house, a more prestigious job and so on? The answer is no, none of these is evil in itself. What matters is the heart attitude, the intentions that make us want any of these things.

There is a clear difference between desire and greed. Simple desire can be constructive; it motivates us to work and be productive. But greed is dangerous and destructive. It is desire out of control.
Control is the necessary thing, the real issue is control. The question is; will the things we want serve our needs, or will our needs serve that thing? That's why the Bible says that greed or covetousness is idolatry (Eph.5:5). Greed or to covet is to surrender our will to a thing, in other words, to make it our master, our God, the things that we serve. But God insists; you shall have no other gods before Me. (Ex. 20:3).

We have to be careful not to find ourselves in the net of greed. Watch out what you want, how you pursue it and for what reasons you want them. If your desires is taking all your times and pushing you away from God, implying God is not enough. Then it is time to reconsider your step and turn to God.
