Community Centers
I just became aware of a great resource I had available, that I had never really thought about - Community Centers. When we went to vote on Election Day, we had several voting locations available to us, and the closest was a local Community Center, one of many in Albuquerque. I guess I had thought of them as more places for kids, but I noticed all the programs and activities for adults and seniors as well.
Some of the first activities I noticed are free, like boxing and kendo lessons, cardio-boxing and meditation classes. Looking around for more flyers or a schedule of programs, I found plenty more free classes as well - yoga, tai chi, belly & line dancing and a variety of fitness classes and programs.
If you are willing to pay a very small fee, there are aikido classes for $4, karate, yoga and fitness classes for $5, or pottery class for $10. If you don't need the class, the pottery studio is free to use during certain hours. They also have the obligatory basketball league, and the gym costs only $10 a month, which is a huge savings over a normal gym.
In addition, there is a free computer lab, game room, arts and crafts room, BMX track, and multiple sports fields and playgrounds. This is an amazing resource, and I will be sure to take advantage of it in the future! Maybe your town has one of these?
I was vacationing in Florida on the day of the elections and if there were these entertainment centers, I think it's a very good idea.
