THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 36 - PINFISH

in #wild-man7 years ago (edited)

Since I would rather at least catch something when I go saltwater fishing than nothing, the Pinfish is a good friend of mine.

The Pinfish (Lagodon rhomboides) is an excellent little fish that can be found in the shallow saltwater on the Atlantic Ocean side of Mexico and the United States. I frequently catch them when I go to South Padre Island. Periodically I catch other fish as well, but the Pinfish is one of my most common shallow-water catches when I am fishing from the shore.

The Pinfish is also called a "Piggy Perch" by the local fishermen and can be found from the shallows near the coast to waters about 50 feet deep. Since they are a smaller fish, they are a food source for Red Drum, Grouper, and Dolphins. Many anglers will use the Pinfish as bait for other fish, whether whole or as cut bait. I try to keep the videos for aquatic creatures shorter since I don't want to cause them too much stress, so enjoy the episode.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

I was wondering if you would just throw it back in the water at the end of the video.. poor fishy. Hope he was tasty! :P

I did release this one, but have eaten them before.

Hehe fair enough! I used to go fishing with my granddad as a kid and usually was super excited to eat what I caught at the end of the day. Grandma was the cook obv. :)

wow its so amazing!! take you for sharing

Thank you for enjoying it.

Cool information post! Thank you)

Thank you for checking my posts out!

I follow you!

I also love saltwater fishing but stay around 600 km from the nearest ocean thus do not get an opportunity to fish often!

I wish that I could fish the ocean more often, but at least it is a rare treat for me.

Very true and the same for me. I also was not very successful the last couple of times. Looks as if the fish is quickly getting less and less.

@papa-pepper caught that fish with his bare hands... Just wanted to let everyone know. Thats how fast he is even in the water...

The Pinfish was caught hook & line...

But this one was barehanded...

And this one...

And this one too....

Nice little catch mate! Do they grow bigger normally?
Have you ever eaten them?
Lovely fish!
Cheers
@progressivechef

I've eaten them, they are tasty. They do not grow very big, so this one may be considered to be an adult.

Nice to know that! Small fishes are always very delicious! Have you checked my chicken wings steemit logo mate!?

So do you release them, eat them, use them as live bait, or cut them up for bait?just curious as i dont think you said.

Whats the biggest fish you have caught at Padre Island? I’ve not eaten fresh fish like in that many years. They do taste so much better.
