THE WASTELAND PARADISE
Why yes, that does sound like an oxymoron.
Honestly, in all of my years of heading to South Padre Island, I had never seen anything like this. As we enjoyed our time in Texas, part of it included a trip to South Padre. While looking for other swimming spots, we headed north up the island and eventually reached a part where the sand dunes were creeping across the road.
I took what photos I could, but missed out on some better options because the road was often only about one lane, and there wasn't really any parking spots, so, not wanting to cause an accident, I obviously did not stop there. Anyway, South Padre is often thought of as a wonderful tourist destination, so to see this part looking so barren and dismal was interesting. In some of my favorite photos below you can see the hotels in the background too, which adds and interesting effect.
I suppose in desert areas, or other places with a lot of sand, things like this may be common, but it was my first time seeing anything like this. Enjoy the photos!

We have places like that here in SA @papa-pepper. In fact my husband was there last week, the red Kalahari desert. Stark beauty. It is indeed a wasteland paradise. Like so many of us who ABBA desires to water and make truly magnificent.
