Suggested Tournament Variation and Feature for Steem Monsters.

Hello @steemmonsters enthusiasts! I thought it might be a good time to throw a couple of ideas out there, to have the addition of different tournament variations and extra features, to further enhance the experience for all players and fans of the game.

First of all, automated tournaments was something that everyone was eagerly awaiting, and the new interface and general feel of the newly arrived tournament feature, is a fantastic addition to what is already an amazing game, and I’m certain it will only get better as we move forward.

The tournaments so far have been a lot of fun, and from my own personal experience, I can definitively say that they’ve done a great job with the overall integration and implementation of the on-site tournament feature, and I’m sure most players would agree. But best of all, no more challonge and manual tournaments….Yipeeeeee!

Now back to a couple of suggestions and what they may possibly entail. I don’t often go through and read too much of the chat in the Steem Monsters discord server, so this may possibly have already been mentioned or discussed.

Bounty and Knockout Tournaments

A bounty tournament would have a specific player or group of players in the tournament field with a bounty attached to them for being knocked out of the tournament. If you are able to knock them out, then you are paid a nominated fixed amount allocated to that particular player (known before the tournament begins). This would be known to all players, by showing a visual graphic (target) and bounty reward amount placed next to the players name and/or avatar within the tournament lobby (separate from the main prize pool). This would most likely be one of the sponsored staff players or tournament hosts/creators. Another option is for one of the Elite players of the game to be made one of the bounty players, as predetermined by @steemmonsters or the tournament creator. Who knows, even a well-known personality or celebrity could be a possibility at some point in the future?

A knockout tournament is similar to the bounty variant, except that there is a nominated and fixed reward amount for winning a single round match against any opponent. This is also a great incentive for all players who don’t get the opportunity to win or place highly in tournaments as often, to win a more regular prize in the earlier rounds and encourage players to play more often and increase field sizes. Another good reason for this is to reduce variance for tournaments that have buy-in fees.

The other great thing about bounty and knockout tournaments is that it would create some extra anticipation and excitement as to who may be lucky enough to draw the bounty player and then get a shot at taking the prize! The same goes for the knockout variant! That would create a lot of fun and banter amongst players and give ‘bragging rights’ for people to post about their experience of knocking out specific players, therefore creating more buzz and promotional opportunities for the game. Even if you don’t win the tournament, you can still have a shot at taking that bounty prize!

Watching battles in real-time

I’m absolutely certain this is on the list of ‘things to do’, but the one thing I would love to see more than anything, is having the ability to watch battles in real time as an observer. There would be nothing more exciting that to watch a tournament battle live and seeing the match playing out right before your eyes. It would be so cool to actually be able to rail a battle of your favourite or most admired players, or even some of your own friends that play the game! Wouldn’t it be a lot more fun to watch a tournament final live? Yes!!!

Imagine all the excited groupies and fans hanging on the rail all excited and trying to get a glimpse of their favourites…

I’m sure there are plenty of other great ideas floating around out there, but this is a couple of features I would like to see the most!

Good luck out there on the battlefield, unless you are playing against me lol.

As always, have a great day and PEACE

I think the two tourney suggestions are awesome ideas.. I also think they will be pushed for by people once they hear the concept. My guess is that will EXACTLY happen by the end of the year as soon as they have time to program it in. Mark my words on that ;)

On the live tourneys, I think that will come as we get bigger and the pots get bigger. I wouldn't mind watching the last few rounds of a big tourney, but before that we will need a good "color commentator" :P

Thanks Dave.. I know that these things take time and we are still in the very early stages of the automated tournament platform. I just wanted to get my requests in early lol.

I think what we have now is pretty awesome in comparison with the manual tourneys. I'm impressed:)

There is one downside to the live tourneys. We will also have more people watching us get spanked :P

Great suggestions. Hope @yabapmatt got some time to consider these options.

  • When the bounty thing comes up, I will put some bounty on you!

Hey @glory7, thanks for dropping in with your comment, and I appreciate your thoughts on this!

I don't think that putting a bounty on me would be such a great idea. It might be better if it lasted a couple of rounds😂. I think you would be a much better candidate for a bounty player:) It might give me some extra motivation to try and beat you:P One can only hope!

Maybe we should put one on @bji1203 !

That would definitely work😉
