The Garden Orb Weaver Spider

Last night I went looking for spiders up in the backyard. Among others, I found this beautiful specimen of the Garden Orb Weaver, Eriophora transmarina. This spider can be quite variable in appearance and this is the first time I have seen this form with the white stripe down the back of the abdomen. As the name suggests, these spiders build the typical spiral orb type of web.

All of the photos were taken with a Canon 7D and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens.
