Catalonia honors Messi
Argentina's Lionel Messi received the highest award from the Catalonian government at a ceremony honoring him Thursday night, in recognition of what he has done both inside and outside the stadium over the past years.
Messi won the Sam Sant Jordi in Catalonia for excellence in 2019, at a large ceremony held for the Argentine star amid the presence of dignitaries and a great media attention.

Messi was chosen to receive this award in recognition of the continuous contribution of the Argentinian with his club Barcelona at the local and European levels, as well as recognition of the humanitarian efforts, which are not too late, especially with regard to contributing to the treatment of children with cancer.
Messi is the second football player to receive the medal, preceded by legendary legend Johan Cruyff, one of the legends of Dutch football and Barcelona.
