Iron and Vines - Flowering Mandavilla vines overtaking garden trellis - 5 original photos

This spring, we planted a Mandevilla vine at the base of a trellis in our garden. We watched as it slowly climbed and covered the trellis. Now the vines are flowering, and I took these images a couple of days ago to share with you!

I found it interesting to learn that the Mandevilla, which is considered toxic and not psychoactive, is sometimes used as an ingredient in ayahuasca, the DMT-infused brew used by native people in South America to enhance spiritual rituals.

I took all of these images with my Canon T5i entry-level DSLR paired with a Canon 55-250mm IS STM lens. I can't get enough of this lens!

On to the images! This clouded sulphur butterfly was eating nectar out of a Mandevilla flower. These little yellow butterflies move erratically, and it's incredibly difficult to keep up with them. They get me running around the garden looking like an idiot. I got this one, though!

We're looking up at the sky here. The Mandevilla has reached the very top of the trellis!

My composition for this shot is intended to help you visualize how the vines climb as well as the relationship between the vines and flowers.

I like the organic curves of the vines and the curves of the metal trellis. And it's cool to see the vines really taking over, too.

You just can't beat these flowers!
