The Gasstation =/= Die Tankstelle 👹🍣🎎 Wonderful Japan GER-ENG

We are open! - It must have been some time since gasoline was served at this station. Even though the lettering on the windows still screams "OPEN", no motorists have stopped here to fill up for a long time. The gas station has been closed for a while, and there is only one window left open. Whatever the reason, maybe they just forgot to close it.

Even though the small old gas station building has now been abandoned and unfortunately is now probably waiting to fall into ruins, when driving by I was somehow fascinated by the sight of this place, so I had to stop and turn around to take another good look here. I can't say that it's spectacular, but nevertheless it has a very special, attractive charm for me. There is also a bit of sentimentality and melancholy in the air, as just a few hundred meters away you are in one of Japan's most popular and famous destinations, in Nikko.

Splendor and decay are often not so far apart and probably seem to get along quite well. In any case, they make for a sharp contrast that is impossible to miss. I am attracted to both and can see and feel the charming point of this abandoned place. Probably because I know exactly what melancholy is.

With willpower, a little imagination and some good ideas, you could make something out of this old gas station again. But probably Japan was simply too oversized in all respects, so that now quite a few objects in the whole country have simply become useless. Nw people prefer to build new and colorful and forget the old and push it out of their view and out of their lives. Even though you may pass by there every day.

But if possible I still look and try to discover and understand a little of the charm and history of such places. And when I stood there right in front of this gas station, I felt pretty good after all. Maybe just because I didn't drive by carelessly and ignoring, but briefly paid my respects. And because we continued our journey afterwards with a smile, I guess we did everything right.

Wir haben geöffnet! - Es ist wohl schon einige Zeit her, dass an dieser Tankstelle Benzin ausgeschenkt wurde. Auch wenn der Schriftzug auf den Fenstern weiterhin in Großbuchstaben "OPEN" schreit, haben hier schon lange keine Autofahrer mehr angehalten, um aufzutanken. Die Tankstelle ist schon lange geschlossen und offen steht hier nur noch ein einziges Fenster. Warum auch immer, vielleicht hat man nur vergessen, es zu schließen.

Auch wenn nun das kleine alte Tankstellengebäude aufgegeben wurde und leider nun wohl auf seinen Verfall warten tut, hat mich beim Vorbeifahren der Anblick dieses Ortes doch irgendwie fasziniert, so dass ich anhalten und umdrehen musste, um hier noch einmal richtig hinzuschauen. Spektakulär ist anderes, aber trotzdem geht vor hier für mich so ein ganz bestimmter, anziehender Reiz aus. Ein wenig Sentimentalität und Melancholie liegt auch in der Luft, und nur wenige hundert Meter weiter ist man in einem der beliebtesten und bekanntesten Reiseziele Japans, in Nikko.

Pracht und Verfall sind oft gar nicht so weit voneinander entfernt und scheinen sich wahrscheinlich auch ganz gut zu vertragen. Auf jeden Fall bilden sie einen scharfen Kontrast, der unübersehbar ist. Ich fühle mich von beiden angezogene und kann auch bei diesem aufgegeben Ort seine charmante Seite sehen und fühlen. Wahrscheinlich weil ich ganz genau weiß, was Melancholie ist.

Mit Willen, etwas Fantasie und einigen guten Einfällen könnte man auch aus dieser alten Tankstelle wieder etwas machen. Aber wahrscheinlich war Japan früher einfach in jeder Hinsicht zu überdimensioniert, so dass nun etliche Objekte im ganzen Land einfach nutzlos geworden sind. Dann baut man lieber neu und bunt und vergisst und verdrängt das alte aus seinem Blickwinkel und aus seinem Leben. Auch wenn man dort täglich vorbei kommen mag.

Wenn möglich schaue ich aber trotzdem hin und versuche ein wenig von dem Charme und der Geschichte solcher Orte zu entdecken und zu verstehen. Und als ich genau vor dieser Tankstelle gestanden habe, habe ich mich doch auch ziemlich gut gefühlt. Vielleicht einfach nur, weil ich nicht unachtsam und ignorierend vorbei gefahren bin, sondern kurz meine Aufwartung gemacht habe. Und da wir anschließend mit einem Lächeln weitergefahren sind, haben wir wohl alles richtig gemacht.
