[Introduction] - A Jog through the New Jersey Palisades

Hi Steemit! I'm a 27-year old grad student here in Manhattan. For my first post I'd like to show you an under-appreciated part of the Hudson coastline, the Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey.

It follows the coastline of the Hudson river along sheer cliffs.

The noise of the city drowns out just minutes after crossing the Hudson river. Here's the view down the busiest bridge in the world on my way to the park in the early morning.

...And here's thew view from the New Jersey side. This is Fort Lee. There was a Revolutionary War battle here, and three redcoat ships sank (sorry Britain).

Winding downhill and hair-pinning back, the trail ends up directly under the bridge.

Further north there's an offshoot down to some docks with great views of the Manhattan skyline. Well, great if I could hold the camera level...

And looking back up at the trail gives the cliffs some perspective. They're maybe 200 or 300 feet high.

Further north there are moss-covered stone staircases that lead to hidden trails along a rocky creek

And at the end of the trail you get a killer view from atop the cliff. This is looking at the very north tip of Manhattan, namely Inwood Hill Park, which I've heard has the best-preserved landscape of the original island.
