European Thursday - The Columbus Monument, Barcelona

Greetings, friends!

I took this long-exposure photograph of the Columbus Monument in Barcelona, a 60 m (197 ft) tall column, a couple of days ago. In a land far, far away...But still in Europe. This is my entry for the photo challenge by @czechglobalhosts, week # 100. And my first to join the initiative.

The column was built where the famous pedestrian boulevard La Rambla meets the harbor. The one where Christopher Columbus returned to after his first voyage to the Americas.

I was inspired to try this angle by prints of artworks I saw local artists selling in Barcelona, Spain. Of course, paintings look quite neat and reality has a lot of distractions to offer. Shooting during the busiest tourist season. Still, a great memory. Some details of the column, taken by day, coming soon.

Yours,

Manol

That's a nice perspective, and a neat effect with the lights!

Thank you. Aperture F 8 and more would normally do it. Better more than 8 to be sure. I think I used F 11 this time.

Thanks a lot!

I've never been there, but it sure looks nice. Is the plaza wet?

Generally no, not wet. It's a spacious place and there is a lot of ground between the monument and the water, which is a sheltered harbor with no big waves.

Ah, the ground is kind of polished by billions of footsteps daily, that's why the reflections.

I really love Barcelona. Thanks for bringing back memories!
