A question for the community
Hi there folks,
This is my first post, and as a new member I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of content people would be most interested in reading about!
Here are a few of the ideas that I've been playing with:
Updates from peer reviewed scientific literature (cited of course) and translated from the field-specific jargon to an overview that is more understandable to a wider audience. Coming from an environmental/geology background they'll probably be geared more towards those fields but I'm always up for a challenge and maybe inspire others from different fields to do something similar.
A series on Infrared (IR) photography: I've been fiddling around with this for a few years and you can get some really incredible photos if you have an old digital camera laying around and are comfortable cracking it open and fiddling with its guts. My plan would be to do a series on how IR photography works and expand to the science of camera sensors and spectroscopy, also I'll do an overview of how to actually mod cameras to take IR if you are confident enough to chance destroying your camera.
Any concept in Earth's geologic/fossil history or a rundown of some of the different methods and limitations we use to date rocks, fossils, or large events. There are so many topics and ways I could take this so questions/requests from all of you would be highly appreciated.
I have the gear to record audio that won't sound like a flock of snakes in a tin can, so that's a possibility, or maybe a combination of writing/audio.

I'd say go for all three! I think the first one is definitely a much under-appreciated thing to do. I've been to the AGU conference before and walking down the hall of scientific posters in anything that isn't related to my field is always so daunting. If I stop and look at their data I can start to understand it but I think the jargon in their titles alone can make it hard to absorb some of that information haha
Yea I know what you mean. I get the need for precise terminology in academia but what's the cost if the vast majority of the public can't understand what you're writing about? Thanks for the input!
Yeah it's an interesting double edged sword. Like I know they're necessary but maybe they should all have 2 titles, one for public outreach and one for the science community haha
Oh, photography is huge here, but I have never seen anything that is Infrared. That will be very interesting to see. A few tags you may be interested in seeing is photofeed and photomag.
