Ms Corn Girl

A month ago I posted about Mr Corn Man and I got some mixed feedback about him. I'm not surprised as it was my first attempt at making a corn doll.

Today I tried again, and this time I watched some YouTube videos first. Hopefully you will agree Ms Corn Girl is a bit prettier than Mr Corn Man.

Let's start with my corn husks. Last time I soaked the husks in water to clean them. This time I just wiped them down with a damp cloth. I found this was less messier. I trimmed the ends and used those bits to make the head.

Here's the head and the arms. I rolled a piece of husk tightly to make the first stage of the arm.

Then I added some puffed sleeves and cut a top. These three pieces make up the top body.

The bottom part of the body was a bit more trickier. I forgot how they made them in the YouTube videos, so I decided to wing it. I added the legs, and a front and back apron as this is supposed to be a country girl. It took me a while to assemble the lower body tightly together. Being a country girl, she would have long hair, and I used the corn tassel to make a plait for Ms Corn Girl. Then I added a bonnet and a scarve. What do you think?

In order to make Ms Corn Girl less voodoo like, I added some feminine touches like the puffed sleeves, bodice, scarve, and a slim waist 😊

Oh!! I've just added a handbag for her as well. Ms Corn Girl is faceless so you will have to imagine what she looks like. I hope you'll think she's pretty(ish)!
