I'm currently doing the Sketchbook Slam Challenge, a challenge where you fill a 600-page sketchbook in one month. It's going okay so far x)

Today I made a sketch which I liked and I wanted to put some colors onto it :)

Here are the steps:

Trying to figure out the colors with Krita...

... and then changing everything xD

I'm not sure if I declare this one "finished", maybe I'll play with it some more, we'll see :)

Thank you so much!! :)

I like the way a piece turns into something but started out into a different thing. The process shots are art by themselves, transformation of the art. The facial expression on this one is so deep in thought I wonder what they see?

Thank you! I'm sometimes surprised how different my artworks turn out when I look back at the process, sometimes I'm shifting the colors around so much that I don't know which one would be the best. It can be really hard to decide ^^"

I can relate. When in the middle of the piece you decided to try something out but then hesitated midway and then resume or innovation from the existing concept. This is art at work. :D

Wow @lioba, 30 days with 600 pages sketch book, average you need to have 20 sketches a day. What a challenge. The sketch must be with color or it up to your choice? This challenge required you have a very deep sketching skill, or else it really a challenge to complete 20 sketches a day.

I like the sketch with red sketching. it look unique and beautiful. And when you applied the color, the final result look like a stone sculpture. It so beautiful. In the post you mentioned it going to okay so far, do you post it as well? I would like to see it as well if you don't mind :p

Thank you, I'm glad you like it so much :)
I don't color every sketch, I don't even color most of them, don't have enough time for that. There are maaany simple sketches and gestures in my book, otherwise I wouldn't be able to handle the stress. But it's a great opportunity to study some things and to get more experimental with my sketching. Especially because I tend to be very stiff when I draw people.
I'm thinking about filming a flip-through of the finished book, it would be too much work to scan every page and I imagine that not every page is that interesting ^^

Practice make things perfect 👍You can take this challenge as a practice and an opportunity to learnt more But based on your sketch, you already good with it..i love it very much. yaya, please do the flip through filming or animation. I would love to see it. i still admire your dedication and love with drawing..

I will do the filming, just need to get my hands on a tripod first x) I'm happy that you're this interested!

Thank you @lioba. Yes i am.. I like to see sketching and art. But I not an artist..Too bad hahaha.. I did learn drawing in school time. But because of busy with study, i have put it aside. I recently just tried on how to do color pencil shading after so many years, but the memory start to fall back pieces by pieces on the technique i learnt.

hey hey :) Just wanted to let you know that I finally did a flip-through of the first 200 pages ^^

This is a very challenging challenge :) How long does it take you to make a sketch like this? If you have to make 20 each day and one would take you 30 minutes than it would take you each day 10 hours! WOW! I hope that you're much faster :)

He looked like a perfectly carved sculpture. This green color is stunning! I also like the part that you highlighted with a bit lighter color. It gives the sketch nice texture. But the guy looks so sad. I don't know what happened to him but he looks like he needed a hug :)

Thank you for sharing. It's beautiful!

Thank you! I'm happy about your kind words :)
This sketch took me some time, I'm not sure how long I've been working on it, maybe about one hour, but I'm making many faster sketches in my book, sometimes I work a little bit longer on one page, but most of the time I try to finish the 20 pages, maybe make some extra pages if I feel the motivation, as I'm currently 20-30 pages behind, because I was sick for three days.
I think I'm drawing about 3-6 hours every day on this challenge. :)

Wow! That is still a lot but it's a great motivational if you enjoy drawing :) And challenging yourself is a great idea. It makes you do it even when you don't feel like it.

I hope you will catch up on your backlog soon :)

AHHH I love it! The amount of detail and effort you put into the sketching phase is absolutely remarkable, most artists I follow dont put nearly so much effort in that stage, which is pooey because I personally feel that's where you can see a lot of their initial inspiration coming through before cleaning it up and putting in the colours they want.

Thanks for sharing this with us! I'll be following you to scope out the rest of your art!

Thank you so much for your comment! It really made my day :)
I'm really happy that you liked the sketch so much! It really encourages me to try to do more detailed sketches.
Thank you again! :)

Of course! You deserve it!

I can imagine how it may be difficult sometimes to fulfill the challenge, not only because you are not good but I sometimes have moment I am just drained out and have no power and no inspiration to any anything, just need couple of days off. So I would be a bad candidate for slam challenge. I like your drawing though, the idea is great some combination of sci-fi and may be like mythology. The mutant, combination of human and plant. I like his Greek mythology like face profile and I also can recognize some bone lines along his arms. A lot of detailed work of head and arm but less of body, like you say yourself as artist you always can come back and edit your work. Great idea and beautifully made.

Thank you :)
Yes it can be very draining on some days. I've always been someone who is rather "quick" when it comes to sketching. I have had some bad days during this challenge where I had some trouble getting stuff done. But I'm trying to be kind to myself and I make small deals with me like "just do some gestures" or "don't think to much if you don't like a sketch just start the next page". It's easy to get caught up in thoughts like "I don't want to waste paper" or "I want to make everything pretty" But sometimes it can be freeing to just let go and let imperfections happen :)

I love this so much, @lioba ! He is so strange and fascinating, and the plant growth on him are very nicely detailed <3 Gorgeous colours, too <3 <3 <3

Ahh thank you love! I've been afraid the colors might've been too plain but I think the sketch is detailed enough to not get totally overboard with colors x)
