Wednesdays at La Tortuga: Starting a Weekly Tradition
These photos are from the first meat up we held a La Tortuga a few weeks ago to give people an idea of what to expect. We've made a tradition of this for Wednesdays at La Tortuga, so if you're in town on a wednesday consider giving it a try! The giant hunk of meat on the grill is the picanha, one that's quickly grown to be my favorite.
The goal is to help bring people to La Tortuga as well as have a somewhat easier meeting spot for the meatup than our house. We purchased this small grill for 350 pesos to get started grilling meats once a week at the restaurant.
Every time I've served these, known as carnivore balls. They're addicting, fair warning.
Just ground meat, bacon and lard!
This little grill was used as an oven or a hot box to heat the steak with indirect heat after griling. Because the picanha is kind of a big piece of meat it's best to finish it in the oven or somewhere similar for a bit to bring the internal temp up or you'll be dealing with raw steak.
The menu of La Tortuga, not yet featuring my carnivorous treats but have plenty of options for vegetarians and omnivores alike. We also purchase our drinks from La Tortuga during the meat up.
Come out this Wednesday for our next, where I'll likely serve picanha again and this time some marinated pork kebabs! Click here for a link to the Facebook event!
