Whites of Andalusia - Imprinted by LightCaptured
When I was traveling in Andalusia, that amazing region of Southern Spain, I really admired and deeply enjoyed all those whitewashed houses and buildings in general.
It affected me so much, that I already whitewashed some of the wall of our house and I plan to continue that process in this year.
When traveling, my thoughts were that the logical explanation is that the white color reflects sunlight and thus heat in the best way.
Well, that practical explanation is true but I know that all Spaniards will add that it's not only the practical side.
White is just... beautiful. Simple and beautiful. It also adds that feeling is cleanness.
That perception of purity.
Now let me share few photographs from that part of the world to prove my point :)
Do you notice how well these whitewashed walls combine with those vivid colors local people use? (check out that door in particular).

I don't know why I instinctively always associated the whitewash with disinfection. I've seen, I think, some movies related to the plague or some other epidemic in the past, lol. But surely the houses in these southern regions are not whitewashed just for beauty, I'm sure. As much as the tourist would like it to be so, and especially the photographer. And the dreamers like me who yearn to live in such a country - even more so...
Beautiful photos from a fabulous place!
I suppose that is another feature or function of it too.
Our predecessors have been practical with less technology, right ;) So probably, there are even more features ;)

I agree, white adds to the overall freshness and blends with any other colour.
But still, painting white is typical for southern buildings. It really has a practical value in the heat)
The climate here gets extreme too.
The last three days it is almost 30 degree C here, end of March, 1-2 April and it's not April Fools day :)))
Today I used the Air con in the car to cool it down and I was with a t-shirt. Real madness...
So I am probably white-washing more walls this year ;)
Знаешь... в этом году очень странная погода и осенью и зимой и сейчас. Я не помню, чтобы 1 апреля было +20С. Обычно ещё много снега.
Кто-то заигрался с климатическим оружием... )
Absolutely!
I think, collectively, we as people or as humanity, have almost managed to screw the planet... Hopefully the next generations will be wiser than us :)
главное, что бы им осталось что исправлять.
Планета переживёт, мы для неё лишь мелкие блохи. А вот выживем ли мы сами, это ещё вопрос.
Но будем надеяться на лучшее)
