What is wrong with the TV journalists? Imprinted by LightCaptured
Greetings!
These pictures below, I took while riding a train in Switzerland, in the Swiss Alps.
The train is called Bernina Express and is actually a narrow-gauge, smaller wagons and slower speeds but these are all advantages as there are many breathtaking mountain views and panoramic scenes that fill the eyes and the soul of the traveler ;)
Now, hey, what does that have to do with that grumpy title?
Perhaps a better adjective to use here might be "angry".
All that is related to an event that happened recently and is covered in English here: https://bnt.bg/news/sofia-varna-fast-train-derailed-near-svoge-station-330965news.html
TL;DR the night passenger train on one of the main railroad directions in Bulgaria, from the capital city to the biggest city on Black Sea, has derailed.
If you read the news I linked, you will find it ok. The article a bit dry, facts only. I think the news in general should be exactly like that. Thanks God, no casualties, as it was within a train station, very low speed.
Noooooo, no, no. Journalists do not think the same way.
The same media, but this time its TV sibling, BNT, covered it absolutely differently.
BNT is the biggest national channel in Bulgaria, that is state owned, sponsored mainly by taxes everyone pays. So you would think, there should not be any shit on it. Or at least, not much.
What really pissed me off is how that state owned media tried to make this all look like it is nothing. Not important. Not at all.
Even the main focus on their "reportage" was a boy, in a visual age of like ten, who was explaining with a smile on his face how "cool it was", "it is a great adventure to share in the social networks", etc.
There were hundreds of passengers on the train and they also presented two women who told they felt some vibrations but it was OK as nobody is injured.
What was the journalists point?
Perhaps try to avoid people filing legal suits against the railway company? It is also state owned, by the way.
Or just share their belief, that when there aren't any casualties, it is not a big news?
Or that it is normal if the delay is "only three hours".
A relative of mine traveled with the same train just few days before all that happened and I couldn't imagine how worried I would be if that happened the same night. Few minutes after midnight when there wouldn't be much volunteers to help.
I don't know what their point was but I am absolutely certain there is something wrong, something terrifyingly wrong with the modern "journalism". At least on the main national TV channel. Or more realistically, there are many things that are wrong.
Oh, well. This "news" left me with more questions than info and answers.
In Bulgaria we have a saying "Every miracle lasts three days."
This is the journalist version of that saying: "Every miracle lasts three days if there are casualties, otherwise it lasts one day."
Pardon me if that's too much for you but I had to share my thoughts on the matter.

Oh, in recent days I have also been considering a post on a similar topic, but it does not, in my opinion, concern journalists so much as the rulers whose interests this television serves, and all media in general that serve one party or another.
In the last few days, for example, I found out that there is no freedom of speech in Bulgaria, as it was as if they forced a victim woman, who lost everything, to appear in front of the camera and change her opinion 180 degrees, to say something completely opposite to what she said the day before. I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed this controversy. And oh yeah, no people died, so it's all good. Nevermind that hundreds of animals died and so many houses burned down, people lost everything. Kind of like that phrase: "No dead people." talks about how much they don't care about people at all. And their actions in this situation show that if the people had died, it would have been even better for them. It feels that way and has always felt that particular way here.
And yes, I also watched the disparaging report with the little boy, and you must be right that it is to distract people from wanting to make a claim for compensation. But as I said, it cannot start from the journalists, "it is state owned", you say it yourself.
You may be right about them.
Oh, there is freedom of speech unless you start digging too deep or criticize the strong of the day ;)
True... true...

My thoughts are similar, I believe you are quite right about all that.
No real "independent" journalism, as they need salaries and bonuses.
I hear there are some crowd-funded sources and what's the most interesting is that the Bulgarian crowd-funded news site are hosted on servers outside the country as they know otherwise the most interesting info and articles will be removed :)))
That proves all we say and think, right...
We usually watch the evening news on the national TV but at the morning I read the news from the categories I selected on my phone, coming from Google News.
It is quite interesting, how some news probably need to be approved from "above" as they appear on the TV news sometimes two, even three days later.
TV news "selection" of the most "important" news is quite irritating, as it is usually car crashes, wildfires or other natural disasters and political scandals, which are boring and not very useful... They always find something "more interesting" than discussing the most important issues for the nation like poverty, lack of perspectives and lack of freedom of speech ;)
So true. Almost no good enters our homes through the TV...
I think Nostradamus had said something about it in the same spirit :)
LOL
