Snoring and Sleep Apnea

in #life8 years ago

Snoring affects many people

Both those that do it as well as those that are awakened by it.

Snoring is a harsh sound emitted by the vibration of your throat structures, causing sharp sounds, due the normal breathing being obstructed. In some cases, the sounds are soft and manageable, but in most cases, it becomes loud and unpleasant waking not only the sleeper, but those subjected to it as well. It has been estimated that over 45% of adults snore at least occasionally and may even be the brunt of family jokes, but snoring can be a serious health concern.

Snoring may also be a sign, or first warning, of a more serious affliction called; obstructive sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea, is a sleep disorder that is characterized by pauses in breathing or periods of shallow breathing during sleep.

These pauses can last for seconds or minutes (in more severe cases) and can occur several times each night. You will know it is sleep apena as opposed to simple snoring as the snore will be followed by choking or snorting sounds as the normal breathing resumes.

During sleep the soft tissue in the nose and mouth that allow air to be inhaled, relax but then flex again allowing air out. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a condition whereas the muscles of the soft tissues and mouth remain too relaxed without the full recovery flexation. This causes the tongue and soft tissue to press against the back of the throat, not allowing the passage of air completely sealing the throat.

The lack of oxygen in the lungs causes the sufferer to awaken and gasp... as this occurs more during the night, the individual has disrupted sleep and additionally will suffer from exhaustion and other ensuing symptom from that exhaustion. These include increased stress and mental dullness.

Causes

Some of the common causes of this breathing disorder are:

  • Obesity can also cause this condition as extra fat deposits around the Pharynx (throat)
  • A smaller and recessed jaw with a narrowed airway could also cause this health issue
  • Loss of muscle tone in the tongue and soft tissue due to Aging
  • Swollen Tonsils

Symptoms Include:

  • Snoring
  • Morning headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Impaired mental acuity and concentration

Further Health Ramifications:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Heart DIeases
  • Heart Arrhythmia
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke

Remedies may include

  • Weight Loss
  • Sleeping on your side
  • Not Smoking
  • Avoiding Sleep Inducing depressants like alcohol, sleeping pills or marijuana
  • CPAP ( continuous positive airway pressure)
This is a machine that helps to keep the airway open by moving the jaw forward as well as giving a steady flow of air.

Natural Help

Research has found that most people that suffer with Sleep Apnea also have vitamin and mineral deficiencies, especially in Vitamin D and C, as well as Magnesium... so supplementation may help many people.

Acupressure Methods

There are even acupressure methods on certain nerves that will relieve many of these symptoms and the apnea itself over time.

Yesterday I wrote about reliving sore throats and emotional issues that affect the throat and how to release it easily: https://steemit.com/health/@kyusho/sore-throat-remedy-in-seconds

But a great side benefit is with Sleep Apnea as well.

By simply applying this method each night on both hands before bed, you will induce increased neuro energy in the area affected by the apnea. Also massaging the back of the neck will aid in this issue as well..and the more you do it (make it a habit) the greater the affects will be.

Now there are more intensive nerve massage you could also apply, but it would not be in the scope of an article to explain enough to do it justice.

So if you suffer from Sleep Apnea, try this recipe and report back on your results.

Snoring was always assumed to be due to obesity and respiratory disorders. Many new facts discovered with your article. Thanks for sharing.

I think it more a media problem as they hook onto a mantra like obesity and try to tie as many risks to their mantra of the day. As usual, we need to go out to Duck Duck Go (not Google) for reality.

Can you put some more light on duck duck go vs Google please. Would love to hear more. How does Google manipulate truth.

Google search engines are skewed and censored so much so that most other search engines would reveal different sources. Duck Duck go search does well... I use it for research in many topics and it does not track you like Google. read the highlights at: https://duckduckgo.com/

Always you post so helpful subject.......you are just ,,,,,outstanding....snoring so painful ,,,,, when sleeping time,,,,and also cause of disturbance.....your solution always be workable....i must be apply.....

All I know is it has helped many people I know as well as myself... I am talking about this recipe: https://steemit.com/health/@kyusho/sore-throat-remedy-in-seconds it is only a quick fix that stimulates the nerves in the throat... there is a far better method, but a longer process on a table, not easily described.

so informative post ......love to read it

really.... @kyusho your health information is too good think. good health our good life.... amezing. good job.. thanks for share

So snoring loudly can't just come involuntarily or ordinarily?
I had a partner who snores a lot, is there really a remedy for the mild snoring?

Try the remedy above and see... it will take 15 seconds each side. Try it for three nights right before bed to see the difference. And then if it works for them, come back and upvote the post.

thanks friend for your beautiful and helpful post..... really your post is so helpful... i like your post ...
