When you think of growth, what comes to mind? Part 2

Let's say Career Growth Comes to mind.

Work is going great. I really enjoy what I do and I hope more challenging work comes soon. It isn't hard and it slowly takes me less and less time to complete each task. With the amount they want us to get done, I am sure there are plenty more on the way. I have had some reservation and struggles to communicate with a particular coworker. Then out of the blue, we actually were on the same page. As much as I love my job, I am nervous that it might be too good to be true. Work is going well and maybe too well?

the company talks a lot about growth. It took about seven years to start seeing results. Those results are now more than doubling themselves. They have had to set outrage goals just to see if they could hit it. I should say outrageous. They were pretty conservative with their goals. When the numbers came back well over what was projected they adjusted. As they should and they have always met their goals or surpassed it. Until this past month, which is the first time they were slightly behind projected. What if this growth doesn't sustain itself?

When what if ignites into an epic fire of fear.

What if the expectation isn't met? What if is a dangerous place to be right before a big trip. I keep expecting the fun to end. Would it be worse to start disliking my job or disliking my coworkers? What if the work becomes too much? I keep expecting to be asked to leave. I keep thinking this job will be similar to the last one. I was so certain that one would last longer than it did.

I accepted this position because change meant a promotion, it meant learning a new skill set, which would mean job security. Will it be enough? Will I enjoy it? Will it ruin everything! Of course, when these thoughts start, it goes down other random rabbit holes it has no business doing so. Such as the following series of questions that followed:

  • We all dream of blogging full-time and living off crypto. Can we prep our lifestyle to sustain a feast or feminine market?
  • What if I lose my job and can't travel anymore?
  • What if these affects more areas of my life than I prepared to handle?
  • What if an emergency happens while I'm traveling?
  • What if the worst that happens is the crypto market never recovers?

It's just a job, you could and will find another!

Easier said than done. It took me six months to find this one and watching my savings decrease was heartbreaking. Finding work may not be challenging, but finding a career is. Unlike my generation, I really look forward to working for the same company for decades. I often think back to my first job out of college. I miss them. Not the work, but the benefits they offered. They built an empire I believed in. I don't know if I could go back. It was fun then because the people and most have left since then.

I think about my second job and miss the environment. They had just upgraded the office and it was BEAUTIFUL. It was the type of place that I enjoyed being in and really wish they could have kept me. Many more people in the company have been let go. As is the custom in the sales field. Then I think of this job and it isn't the most beautiful place. It was started in a garage and they are still figuring it out. I love the people I work with. They are so smart. I shouldn't fear the unknown, but with weeks like this, it's hard not to imagine it not improve.

Then lunch happens and its an hour of laughter with such goofy people. Regardless of what happens during the day, before or after lunch, during lunch is always a great break. They even allow us to watch the World Cup games. They provide us with an endless supply of coffee and tea. It's time to take a step back and appreciate the opportunity to be there and enjoy it.

Regardless of how long it last, it's great now and that is enough. With that in mind, I have been playing with the idea of taking a few free classes to expand my skill set. With technology moving a million miles an hour, trying to keep up is probably ideal. With personal and career growth covered, let's chat about hair growth. You may think that was the worst to come just wait until part three.
