Existential Hippy Meets World

Hello Steemit! I guess this is the time and the place I formally introduce myself and explain why I am here. I consider myself a peripatetic philosopher who writes to find meaning in the world but in all honesty, writing is probably a means to make sense of my own individual world and more importantly my place in it. I find my way of being in the world is enriched by a few basic things: words, nature, and philosophy.

Words, in my opinion, are powerful things. When words are spoken or written carelessly they can break anything. Words also paradoxically hold the power to heal, inspire and bring peace. We should be respectful when we wield words as they are phonic nuclear weapons of mass destruction and heat seeking missiles that rarely miss their target. We literally speak magic and destroy worlds with our mindful and/or careless use of language.

Philosophy is the ultimate form of praxis and in its traditional incantation was sought as a means in which to live better. The word philosophy itself means "love of wisdom". But what I find most alluring and captivating about philosophy is the task it seeks to clarify; how do we live better? So, yes, how do we live better? I believe one of the most basic and necessary ways to live better is to foster connection. We somehow need to disrupt the ever-present myth of separation that seems inherently embedded in contemporary culture.I suppose that is a lofty goal, to aspire to disrupt the current power nexus, but I also believe this disruption is achieved best through small, focused and incremental acts. Who knows? Maybe something I write may help someone else at some point when circumstances are less than ideal or perhaps inspire a momentary connection and an internal utterance of: "Me too!"

In addition to being idealistic and hopeful, I am also an animal lover, avid outdoor hiker, roller skater, aspiring potter and knitter. One of my favourite things to do is to hike and take pictures in the moments I feel most inspired and at home in the world. If you, too, are a nature-loving, quasi-intellectual looking for connection and meaning, follow me and I will do my best to be worthy of your attention and time. Time after all is our greatest and most urgent currency. How we use and spend it is essentially what determines if we lived well or not. My use of time these days has been working to embody a minimalist lifestyle and everyday I strive to find beauty in things that are off the beaten path and outside the perimeter of consumer culture. I look forward to learning and sharing with you all.

Kobie

Welcome to SteemIt. I look forward to your future posts. :)

Hello! Thank you. It's a strange and beautiful place here!

Nice post, I am in HippyVille Nelson BC.

Hello Greenman. Nelson! Nice. I have driven by there in my travels but have yet to stop. I will have to make it a point next time as it is, after all, HippyVille. ;) Thank you for taking the time to read and welcome me.

Wow, those are some seriously stunning pictures and I must admit to having a weakness for Autumn. Thank you for sharing that and I think it's officially put Nelson on my bucket list for travel!

Excellent thx. You use the word Existential and it reminds me of Eccentric so here is another link with stunning photos of an eccentric event you would also probably like: https://steemit.com/photographs/@greenman/most-extravagant-eccentric-artistic-music-festival-in-the-world-x100-burning-man-75-000-people

Oddly, I lived in Las Vegas, NV for 10 years and never made it to Burning Man. I have a friend who goes every year and he wields these amazing creatures.

I have always enjoyed my visits to Vegas my sister has summer home there. I will be taking my VW Van to Cuba this year and will probably swing by her place to kill a few days on my way. Will be trying to avoid the winter driving southern states and hoping Key West has ferry to Cuba and its safe enough to have a vehicle in Cuba.

What city to you hang in. I am heading across Canada starting Sept to Nova Scotia then down east coast to Key West.

I am in Saskatchewan.

There is just no doubt, you will enjoy steemit. Your profile already tells a lot about you and it is loveable! If you have questions about steemit, drop us a line in the comments. You also join our discord channel for chats!

Hello! Thank you for the welcome. I am slowly learning my way around the site and I do believe I will enjoy it immensely. I am one of those dive in and play around with it learning folks and so far no questions pop into my mind but I certainly know who to ask if and when I do. Thanks again.

I would love to come back to Nelson for another visit, beautiful place....just a long drive from Winnipeg. le sigh

@deanclifford Vamonos muchacho!

Welcome to steemit, nice introduction 😀

Might I ask what drifting is? You mention it on your home page.

Here is a link to a post I put up a few days ago, there's a great movie down the bottom that you can find out all about it 😀, I don't think it's what you think it is though haha

Thank you. I find things rarely are what I think they are and that is generally why I ask as I am a big fan of context and clarity. You are completely right, it wasn't what I expected it would be.

Told you haha you were probably thinking it was more to do with some how drifting around from one place to the next? A bit of a wanderer.

I had entertained a few different ideas of what it could possibly be. Yes, I thought maybe it was a metaphorical state of being but also considered it might be some sort of gliding activity, meaning either land or water based.

Hello @alexrickard86! Thank you for the welcome and the feedback. I think I may like it here. ;)

Hello Kobie and welcome to Steemit! Nice to have another freethinking-philosopher-hippie in the community!

We live in one of the old hippie outposts of the Pacific Northwest, a wee coastal town named Port Townsend... a haven for the alternative and green for several decades.

Look forward to your contributions here!

Thank you! Yes, philosopher-hippie community!! That sounds heavenly @denmarkguy. If you have images of your hippie outpost I would love to see them.
