Product Spotlight Series #18 - Herbivore Citrine Body Oil

Small businesses do not fare well in my town - they pop up like dandelions only to go out of business a year later, leaving behind an empty building with a crooked “For Lease” sign on the door.

That’s why when a new shop opened downtown, I was desperate to check it out right away. It was a small, classy shop with racks of fashionable women’s clothing, scented candles, and luxurious body products. Though it was expensive, I decided to splurge on a bottle of Herbivore Citrine Body Oil!

“Named for the semi precious stone, Citrine is a sparkling blend of pure, natural botanical oils, including Orange Blossom, Rosehip, and Neroli for deeply nourished and hydrated skin with a euphoric scent.”

As soon as I opened my purchase, I fell in love. The smell is a divine and subtle rose flower with just a hint of citrus… not that overly fake “rose” smell you get from a perfume. This actually smells like a fresh rose from a garden.

The oil quickly soaked in to my skin and left me feeling smooth and refreshed. I discovered that my body appreciates oil instead of lotion. As Herbivore states on their website,

“In contrast to traditional cream moisturizers and lotions which tend to be high in water and emulsifying agents but low in effective ingredients, our body oils contain no fillers and are formulated with only effective natural ingredients. They absorb easily to get moisture, vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants into your skin.”

It came packaged in a glass bottle which was perfectly in line with my zero waste habits and I was pleased to learn that it was quite natural with an emphasis on plant-based, organic, and food-grade ingredients. Each ingredient is included for a therapeutic reason. No animal testing is conducted and all of Herbivore’s oils are cold-pressed or steam distilled. Best of all, they are made in small batches in the USA!

Full list of ingredients include:

  • Capric Triglycerides (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
  • Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
  • Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil
  • Rosa Moschata (rose hip) Seed oil
  • Rosa damascena (Moroccan Rose) Absolute
  • Citrus aurantium (Neroli) Oil
  • Citrus Aurantium (Orange Blossom) Absolute
  • Peach Isolate

So will this $40+ (YES 40 DOLLAR) 4oz. bottle was extremely expensive for me, it was also very worth the price. As you can see, I’ve used up a good amount of it but still have plenty left to last me! So if you have some extra SBD, I really recommend giving this body oil a try!

Overall I rate this Citrine Body Oil by Herbivore 4 out of 5 stars!

In the ingredient list there's a couple of "absolute", what does that mean?

Absolutes are more concentrated versions of the scent! According to a quick search on Wikipedia, essential oils are produced by distillation, boiling, or pressing while absolutes are produced through solvent extraction.
