Telegram is adding support for crypto payments!
Telegram has become one of the most popular social media platforms for crypto investors or traders. Recently Telegram announced that they are adding support for crypto payments. The popular Telegram has partnered with the TON Foundation to allow customers to send crypto payments using the encrypted instant messaging service. Chose the popular stablecoin Tether for payment.
That's why the CEO of the popular stablecoin Tether recently commented on this at the ongoing Token2049 crypto conference in Dubai. He said that they could create the first real power app for this. He said that they are planning to create a power app and this app will work like a social networking system and can also work as a bank account.
As many of us may know the first Open Network, or TON, originally started internally within Telegram. But it later fell apart as the company parted ways with the project after claiming that Telegram's sale of tokens called "grams" violated federal securities laws. The US Securities and Exchange Commission highlighted this issue. However, many investors had money in it. Last Telegram and TON agreed to return more than $1.2 billion to investors and pay $18.5 million in civil penalties.
For crypto payments they decided that TON plans to share advertising revenue with consumers using blockchain. Because currently Telegram is a very popular application with almost 900 million users. And the president of Ton Foundation wants to use this opportunity. He wants to bring these users to more TON blockchain and crypto wallets. Because nowadays many people are looking to send money very easily and quickly.
But another thing to keep in mind is that even though USD is a popular stablecoin, it is also used for illegal activities ranging from sanctions evasion. So in all these circumstances, going deeper into crypto could pose challenges for Telegram, which is considering going public as it works towards becoming profitable.
