#340/365, Beautiful lighting at the Lumpini Park in Bangkok, ไปดูไฟสวยๆที่สวนลุมพินี

On my way back home the other evening, I noticed lots of beautiful lighting in front of the Lumpini Park in Bangkok. So, I finally traveled there by underground train to have a look and walk around the entrance of the park. I was surprised that there were so many people gathering there to take photos.

Lumpini Park was the first official public park in Bangkok created by King Rama VI on royal property in the 1920s. The name 'Lumpini' was taken from the name of the wooded area, called 'Lumpini', where the Buddha was born in Nepal. The statue of King Rama VI was built and put in front of the park in 1942. This park acts as a very important lung for city dwellers and a very busy place for all kinds of activities ranging from running, jogging, weight lifting, tai chi, ball room dancing, aerobic exercises, cycling, yoga, local fairs, exhibitions and so on. The 'Farmers for Nation Exhibition' has drawn lots of people to the free exhibitions and music festival in the night. I saw lots of motor bikes parking by the gate, the sound of rock music together with shrieking sounds of youngsters could be clearly heard at the gate. But I paid attention to the surrounding atmosphere and how families, couples and tourists were having a good time in one of the busiest area of Bangkok.

It was wonderful to see working people taking their families out for the evening without having to spend extra money like going to restaurants or cinemas. Most of the people who came here were migrating workers from other parts of the country. The fact that they came here by public transports and motor bikes already told me that they were simple people who enjoyed simple pleasure in life. They are the salt of the earth and these people make up about fifty percent of all workers in Bangkok. I always feel very easy and relaxed among these simple working people. On the other hand, I always feel uneasy whenever I am among my elite friends; I have to behave with a lot of decorum, which is very boring for me.

The cost of living is rising very fast and the velocity of money in the system has decreased, judging by the empty seats in restaurants in many shopping malls and the empty streets where there used to be lots of busy fast food stalls. Working people and lower middle class people are tightening up their spending. They prefer to eat at home; the restaurants are very busy during the last week of the month when people get paid. Staff in my favourite Japanese restaurant are complaining about less over-time pay. So, this free exhibition and music festival were great for not-so-rich people and students so that they could have some colourful night-out. In really dread what would happen at the end of the fourth quarter when more working people will be made much poorer!

วันก่อนเราขับรถผ่านไปทางสวนลุม เห็นแสงไฟสีสวยที่หน้าพระรูป ทำให้อยากรู้ว่ามีงานอะไร อีกสองวันต่อมาเราก็เดินทางไปโดยรถไฟใต้ดินไปเดินเล่นสักหน่อย สวนลุมพินีเป็นสวนสาธารณะแห่งแรกในกรุงเทพฯ จัดสร้างโดยรัชกาลที่ 6 บนพื้นที่ของหลวง ต่อมาจึงมีการสร้างพระบรมรูปของพระองค์ และนำมาประดิษฐานที่หน้าสวนลุม ทรงให้ชื่อว่าสวนลุมพินี เพราะมีสระนํ้าขนาดใหญ่และมีต้นไม้ร่มรื่นเหมือนสถานที่ประสูติของพระพุทธเจ้าที่เนปาลนั่นเอง สวนลุมกลายเป็นปอดที่ฟอกอากาสให้คนที่อยู่กลางเมืองหลวง และเป็นที่ออกกำลังกายสำหรับคนทุกเพศทุกวัย ทุกวันจะมีคนไปออกกำลังกาย มีตั้งแต่ วิ่ง เดิน เล่นมวยจีน ยกนํ้าหนัก เต้นรำ เต้นแอโรบิค รำดาบ โยคะ เป็นต้น

เราดีใจมากที่ได้ไปเดินเล่นสัมผัสบรรยากาศสบายๆ และได้ดุูการใช้ชีวิตของคนทำงาน และเด็กวัยรุ่นในกรุงเทพฯ เราเห็นมอเตอร์ไซด์จอดอยู่ที่ข้างประตูหลายร้อยคัน และได้ยินเสียงเพลงร็อคและเสียงคนร้องเชียร์ดังมาจากข้างในสวนลุม ตอนนี้เขาจัดงาน 'เกษตรสร้างชาติ' มีการแสดงผลงานด้านเกษตร พันธุ์พืช และ ผลผลิตต่างๆ แล้วก็มีการแสดงดนตรีตอนกลางคืน เราเห็นคนเลิกงาน พาครอบครัว และแฟนมาเดินเที่ยวถ่ายรูปเป็นที่ระลึกกันมากมาย นักท่องเที่ยวก็มาเดินเล่นกัน

เราสังเกตว่าคนที่มาส่วนใหญ่ คือคนชั้นกลาง และคนต่างจังหวัด ที่มาปักหลักหางานทำและสร้างอาชีพในเมืองหลวง ตอนนี้เศรษฐกิจเริ่มช้าลง หลายคนเริ่มต้องประหยัด เพราะค่าใช้จ่ายทะยานสูงขึ้นมาก หลายคนหันมาทำอาหารกินเองที่บ้าน งดไปดูภาพยนต์ ฉะนั้นเวลามีงาน หรือเทศกาลที่สามารถไปเที่ยวเล่น เปลี่ยนบรรยากาศได้โดยไม่มีค่าใช้จ่ายมากมาย ก็จะเป็นที่ต้องการของคนทำงานหาเช้ากินคํ่า และคนชั้นกลางที่เงินเดือนไม่สูงมาก เราอดนึกห่วงคนเหล่านี้ไม่ได้ เพราะปลายปีนี้จะมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงหลายอย่างที่จะทำให้คนตั้งตัวไม่ทัน คนจะตกงานมากและประเทศจะมีปัญหาทางการเงินอย่างไม่คาดคิด เราก็ได้แต่หวังว่าจะมีการผ่อนหนักเป็นเบาให้ประชาชนตาดำๆด้วยเถอด
