DLive is leaving Steem: Sad, but maybe a wise market choice.

The market is moving.

From the recent DLive official announcement:

the current economic model of Steem incentivizes large Steem holders to continuously upvote their own content and other creators who specifically support their content. This creates an ecosystem where a content’s true value can’t be recognized or be fairly rewarded. Community members who are not “privileged” enough to be a part of these groups with large voting power are therefore penalized financially. This problem has been brought up many times within the community and even by prominent figures outside of the community. We believe that this problem, along with the current market conditions has led to a decreased consumption rate of live streams and videos on the platform and is one of the most important issues we are looking to resolve.

Steem is now losing one of its coolest platforms for reasons I feel were highly avoidable. When market signals are not afforded due attention, things like this are inevitable.

It takes more than future promises and hype to create a product. That may be in Steem’s future, but the current situation sure doesn’t seem to reflect this, if so. Other platforms are keeping their users informed, active, and engaged, and seeking to provide them with real means to be rewarded according to the quality of their content as fast as possible.

Steemit has been my number one choice. My home for over two years. A central axis of my life, really. I love it here, but the performance, engagement, and updates are becoming pretty dismal. Platforms like DLive, on the other hand, are extremely adept at keeping users informed and empowered.

The thing I love about Steemit is the wild west, deregulated, decentralized blockchain experience. But that said, when a saloon would be closed back in the real wild west days, they at least would make that apparent to their customers, and not shoot those that didn’t carry a million dollars in their wallets.

This is really an issue with investors not taking care of their investment, and curating quality through various effective means.

DLive has gotten the signal, and is headed elsewhere.

I understand their position, I feel like their is still growth in the system, it is going through a rough patch however value can still be found, as your right engagement is a bit rarer at present, its nice to see conversations now and then.

But that said, when a saloon would be closed back in the real wild west days, they at least would make that apparent to their customers

Yeah. I know what you mean. They should just tell us if we're dying. I want to be loyal, but this is bad for my psyche at the moment. When I shared about what was going on in my life 6 months ago, people would talk to me.

Now? Today I got one comment. It didn't even mean anything. It invited me to a website. Things are different from last month even, when I made a post that garnered 83 comments, and there was a lot of meaningful conversation. It makes me think that I did something wrong. I started a challenge and I'll see it through, but not sure what I'll do after that.

Anyway, very brave of you to say what you did with all the die hards around. :)

Thanks. I’m a die hard too, actually, which is where some of the negative feelings come from, I’m sure.

The recent outage for 10+ hours with no real announcement or changes to the landing page notifying users of such was a bit of a wake up call.

I have a small network of friends here who mean the world to me. However, as you point out, their high quality and thought-provoking works are not rewarded in proportion to interest, commentary, votes, or engagement.

Value is subjective, but when major investors are no longer paying attention to curating good shit, and are just engaging in empty hype and circular voting, the very spirit of the original platform is gone.

Now market realities are reflecting this.

Just my two Steem.

I doubt very much DLive left for the reasons you quote in your post (maybe just because I'm a cynic and never liked them), but the observation itself rings true. More and more people, the actual content providers, can't be bothered to post anymore. The active author number is down to under 15000, and in a downward trend, and I think that is because of failing curation and other interest in content, not because of Steem price.

Steemit is currently set up for making money with money, and not for making money with content, and that is disappointing for authors, especially for those who know what percentage of SP is hidden behind bidbots. All this also makes Steem and Steemit look scammy for those looking at it from the outside.

Sorry I didn't cheer you up.

Sorry I didn't cheer you up.

You did, actually. Hearing real talk makes me feel good!

The recent outage for 10+ hours with no real announcement or changes to the landing page notifying users of such was a bit of a wake up call.

100 percent. I said that last outage too, why is there not something on Steemit's front page? Sticky note "from the desk of Ned" telling everyone what happened. I get details on these things from witnesses who bought votes so their posts would be visible. That is not how a community should be notified

I thought I was a die hard too. This is just starting to happen within the last of couple days. There are still a lot of positive things going on with Steem. Wonderful people here who really should be appreciated, valuable posts, pockets of beauty, but when you look at the entirety of it, it feels like we are sinking. It was/is?? a great idea, but in the end not executed well.

Just my two Steem

Not worth much anymore, you know...;P

Thanks for the follow and upvote btw! :)

;) hahaha. Yeah. Still more than two cents, at least.

I have definitely started looking into/signing up for blockchain based social media alternatives.

Who knows, Steemit could turn things around at any time. After two years of largely empty hype, though, folks--including myself--are getting burned out, and understandably so.

My feeling is that there are a lot of users who are only here when the steem price is high, @snowpea. Good riddance to them. Good riddance to dlive as well. It never worked for me anyway and dTube is coming out with live streaming. That may have influenced the move more than anything.

I appreciate your opinion, man. I don't know what to think. I see a lot of good things going on with Steem these days (steempeak.com is a great new frontend, for instance), but I also see less and less interaction. We shall see what happens with this Dlive move. They may live to regret it. But it does point to existing problems. Hmmm. I'm watching closely, as close as I can anyway. Please continue to keep us up to date with other blockchains you find and try out. I don't really have the time to explore other options, but I am not married to steem and will go elsewhere if elsewhere proves better.

When steem tumbled down, active users disappeared overnight... and why wouldn't they, if they were only here for the money? I read that we only have 15k active ones in comparison to 60k we had when steem was above $1.0.

I also read "a manifesto", which called for ending the "high quality content bullshit" as the only way to drive the price of steem up to $100-500. Pretty funny, but that's what steemit is these days!

I rarely put on videos on dtube either, i find the one week window for rewards too limiting.

When Ned did Bloomberg media the first thing they asked him is why is trending page garbage? Everyone comes here and sees that, and thinks it is a big joke

Check out https://www.vimm.tv/ I like where its heading. - they have a clean UI and interesting model. They are only in alpha stage.

Hey, @thejohalfiles, thanks for the suggestion and tip.

Looks cool, but I think the underlying issue here may be the lack of maintenance/interest in the Steem chain from investors and witnesses. I fail to see how a chain that can go AWOL for a whole day without notifying anyone via the social media platform's official site is going to fare very well. Could be wrong, but lots of us are just burnt out on this stuff.

I realize that the blockchain and Steemit.com are separate things, but at this stage, and as DLive points out, they are still very much connected and affect and influence one another heavily, it would seem. Poor Steemit.com performance and maintenance has resulted in poor results for great platforms like DLive, depending on the chain.

Investors here have almost completely stopped curating new content, and the effects are now being felt. That is my perspective, anyway.

You've been a great encouragement and help to the platform. You continue to be. Recently, however, when I hear "good news" about this or that development "coming soon" I get hints of the same feeling I get when I know I have been had in a bad business deal... Not that even making one penny to blog is a bad thing, but in the sense that I am basically being pacified, while the promise-givers are enjoying the fat up top, provided by our attention, and not really working hard to make this place about quality.

Meetings, and "fests," and hype and dinners. Where's the quality?

they switched steem updates to a seperate twitter and there was announcement

https://mobile.twitter.com/SteemNetwork

Talking about the landing page, though.

They gonna stick with the blockchain idea or try something else?

New blockchain on the Lino network, looks like.

Lol duh. The picture didn't load in time for me to start reading. Lino, huh? Never heard of em yet. Another social media chain?

Lol. Not sure myself, exactly. Just a chain, though, like the Steem blockchain I am guessing. It can be used for social media or whatever purpose. They are going to be doing a kind of gifts/rewards system using the chain though.

Thank you for the content. It is a very valuable information to consider. @wfuneme

Woooow it’s amazing.

Such content! Flow my back?
