Picture Stories #323 - Dahi Vada
There are some times during the week when it happens that food gets on my mind, and I can't stop thinking abut my favorite food items, especially those that I've not eaten in a while. Life is nothing without having the satisfaction of feasting upon the foods you enjoy. Apart from sweet dishes, there are some other items I absolutely adore. Although I'm not addicted to these items as much as I enjoy eating sweets, I do miss eating them when it's been too long and I crave to relish on them again. One such favorite of mine is the dish called "dahi vada" which is like a fried wheat doughnut that's dipped in curd, as shown in the pictures below. I ate it a while back, but it seems like ages and I hope I get to eat it soon again.
This dish reminds me of the Diwali celebrations during my childhood, where it was served in the various houses during our visits. Another thing I really enjoyed about this delicious item is the tamarind chutney topping it is served with!

I thought that they are ice-cream balls with melt caramel, may be we have had ice-cream today too. Because of warm weather our ice-cream was melting very quickly, but was delicious too. Great to learn a new dish :)

Here in Mangalore also we get Dahi Vada. But no tamarind chutney... They sprinkle some fried stuff called Boondi on the top! But I too like this dish and it is a cool thing to have it in hot summer days. Thank you for reminding me about this Dahi Vada!

Yes this dish we get all across the country, with some little variations. But I cannot enjoy it as much without my favorite tamarind chutney :)
