Tokyo Visit: Nezu Shrine's Garden
There's such beauty inside Nezu Shrine that I can't help but appreciate. Our walk was all worth it. This shrine is tucked in a neighborhood and it can only be noticed with its tori gate entrance. Indeed, a secret that only a few had known, I didn't regret adding this to our itinerary! We planned on having lunch in the nearby area but then we decided to stay longer here and just explore the place.
We even spotted some artists in the area, some were taking drafts and sketches at the entrance while others were on the ground, some brought their little chairs with them while others were just squatting on wherever they wanted it. We watched them as they carefully make their artworks.
The husband and I made it into the shrine then passed to the pond and garden which is filled with lushes greenery, shrubs and trees were just covering the entire place! There's even a koi pond!
And I have to also note that we easily found the tori gates, mini ones, it is like a mini version of that more famous Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto.
This one would work in photography, I thought. We made a lot of attempts, some people would be on our way so we have to be patient. But what we really love here was the quietness and the serenity as we observe koi fishes moving here and there in the pond while we were on the platform above. We took our time taking photographs here and there. We just can't help it, it's a beautiful garden!
I know that during springtime, this area just blossoms with Azalea, filled with flowers and beauty, it would be great to come back when they are most beautiful but we were already satisfied with what we have seen during this visit.
The ”Nezu Shrine” was built in Gongen-zukuri in 1706. All the buildings from the main hall to the hall of offerings, the hall of worship, the Karamon (a type of gate seen in Japanese architecture), the Nishi-mon (west gate), the Sukibei (lattice-windowed wall), and the two-storied gate still exist today, and they have been designated as National Important Cultural Property. - livejapan.com
