Night Stars and Wind

Past midnight and the wind
Races again
Rattles the chains
Of streetlights
On Iron posts
Roping off the street
From the woods
Marring the moonlit scrawl
Of shadows
Along a wall.

The pebbled clouds
In the starry sky
Chalk outlines
Of starry bays
And the April woods
Are on the brink
Of surrender
To the first tendrils of spring.

Outside the window
The moon’s a luminous patch
Illumining
A spreading branch,
The wind weaving a circle
A necromancer
Charming and conjuring.

But why does the Night
Chant spells,
Owls dream in the woods
And mourning doves softly call?

It’s a mystery
And I’m unequal to this
But life demands
Something regardless

So I follow memory trails
Back into dreams
And find you
Warm and safe beside me.

O, let the parchment moon
Unroll another scroll
And write upon it
With night’s dark ink
Magic letters
Known only to you and me

Dip your finger
In Zinc
And write hidden messages to me
Shining and lustrous
Upon my skin
Of what was
And is yet to be…

We are such things
As dreams are made of
Even when we cannot fathom
The meaning of
Life’s joys and sadness.

I had this dream of finding me a perfect place
I did look through the grassy lands and sands and cities of maze
Place with honor, maybe a little charm and a little grace
Idealistic man that was me little knew of the truth in fairy tales

It was a pleasure reading the words that you wrote.

So amazing the way nature sets the mood for life. Wonderful write, John:)

nice post. I comment with this

when the sun came back to shine
wipe away your sorrow
wipe your tears
to restore joy
do not let it dissolve in its darkness
full of suffering in self-sufficiency
just friends of the night breeze that kept rustling
tread the owls perched on a branch

go back to the eastern horizon to let the sun come soon
adorn the dark until it turns bright
Look at the morning sun with orange rays
do you find the world smile wipes away tears
