The Magic of Mangosteens.

The Season Almost Over...

We had the luxury of having lots of Mangosteens for two days straight, thanks to Rose's sister who came for a visit from Australia. All she wants to eat are Durians and Mangosteens for the past two days before flying back home. Over here, we call Durian as 'King of fruits' and Mangosteens as 'Queen of fruits', I guess based on their uniqueness in terms of outlook, taste and smell.

There are also a saying that eating Durians will make you feel heaty while eating Mangosteens can help to reduce the heaty as Mangosteen works as a cooling agent. That is why both fruits usually ripped almost at the same time. Life is all about Balance.

While I was finishing the leftovers of Mangosteens, suddenly I have a thought that it might be fun to write a post about this very special and unique fruit.

Bits of Information about this fruit.

Mangosteen is a seasonal and a native plant to Southeast Asia, Mangosteen trees are very rare and hard to grow due to its sensitivity to the soil and water consumption. We only get to see Mangosteen maybe once or twice per year and it gets pricey due to the low supply.

Mangosteen is a dark purple (when ripped) fruit with white, juicy flesh, which tasted sweet and a bit sour. It is also loaded with tones of health benefits from the shell to the flesh of this fruit.

The Magical Part of this Fruit!

Do you know that by looking at the flower petals shape at the bottom of the Mangosteen shell, you are able to know how many pieces of white fleshy fruits inside? Let me show you the magic!

Mangosteens03.jpg

Mangosteens04.jpg

Ta da! Amazing isn't it! Let's try another one if you are not that convince yet.

Mangosteens05.jpg

Mangosteens06.jpg

7 petals shapes and inside is also 7 pieces of juicy white flesh.

How do you know the Mangosteen is ripe? When the outer shell is soft and easy to cut or squeeze open with both hands. Be careful when you open and peel, the purple colour juice from the shell can make a stain to your clothes and skin, just like the Dragon fruits.

I know it's not easy to get fresh Mangosteen in countries beside Southeast Asia, but if you do get the chance to come here and during the fruiting season, I totally recommend you to try this amazing fruit. There are also bottled Mangosteen juice to be found in the markets, but it will never be as good as the real thing!

Mangosteen all the way, have you tried making some tea?
Durians? No thanks🤣🤣

We like to take it fresh, so far not try any dried food produced from it.

The fresh peeling can be boiled and drank as tea..it's very bitter but healthy.

Thank you!

I remember Durians and now you are reminding me of mangosteens from my Thailand trip.

Yup, they always come together in same season.

You’ve been visited by @porters on behalf of Natural Medicine!

Wonderful that you have them growing there! I have bought dried powdered form that I added to my smoothies but I'm sure it tastes nothing like the fresh mangosteen! Such a cool looking fruit with the flower design on the bottom! Interesting that the number of petals in that design will be the number of sections of fruit inside and oh so many benefits! Thanks for sharing!

I have seen the fleshy part of a mangosteen before, but not the whole fruit (and the one I saw did not look like you wanted to taste it) . It's cute. Looks like it would be good and the benefits you have listed are amazing. Wonderful and very informative articale @joelai

Thank you so much @tryskele, too bad you had not seen the tasty side of it. Hope you get to try the real fresh flesh someday.

Love this! Very informative, and your pictures really show the beauty of the fruit!

Well, thank you @cindyhartz! Glad you like it.

What a beautiful fruit @joelai! I am amazed at the detail, the fact that the little flower on the outside indicates how many fruits are inside, wow! So what does it taste like? You said sweet and sour but is it citrus flavored? I haven't seen this fruit around here but I'll certainly keep an eye out now!

Well, its not as sour as citrus, if its ripped enough you will just tasted the sweetness of it. The sweet and sour does balance up even if you get the more younger ones.

You should definitely use it in your salads!

Wow! I they night have them here by us in South Africa, but never knew that it has such excellent health properties.
I have just Googled and there is a site mangosteensa.co.za and will certainly get me some of the concentrated juice that they sell, as they import the juice from Thailand!
Thank you for this great post.
Blessings!

Hope you get to taste this fruit juice soon my friend!

I certainly will my friend, although I see that it is a bit expensive here.
As missionaries we earn small salaries, but we will save up to buy some.
Blessings and a happy Friday to you!

I hope you do, blessing to you both. Happy weekend!

Thank you my friend and also our great weekend wishes for you!
