POKER HAND ANALYSIS - LIVE TOURNAMENT - RIGHT OR WRONG PLAY? Can I fold?

in #poker7 years ago

Hi all,

Had a really healthy stack in a tournament yesterday until I made a speculative call - but I really thought his river bet not made any sense.

Villain who has been pre-flopp raising a lot, made it to 9000 (blinds 2000/4000) from cut off, I look down on JJ on the button and 3bet to 25k - villain calls.

Flopp Q 2 4 s/h/d - it goes check check - Turn: 7d - Villain check and I make it about 20k in 60k pot and villain calls.

River: 2h - Villain now leads 70k and i did call - Villain show A2 dd.

I could not see Villain have a 2 in his range and thought he was bluffing. Because I assume that a hand with Q Will lead turn and a set will re-raise the turn when I only make it 1/3 the pot, also the flush draw did bust..

What do you think? Would you do anything differently?

Thats a tough position. Dont see him folding either after getting the nut flush draw on the turn. Only chance to win was a flop bet i think

I agree with that!

Hey mate i think you played it ok - i would think about a continuation bet on the flop as he would probably drop his hand. He knows you are strong and he doesnt know the Q doesnt help you. Once he bets big on the river he either has something or has completely missed his draw and wants you to fold. Once the diamond draw hits on the turn he isnt going anywhere. I think you played it fine and i dont think there is anyway you can put him on a 2 so you just have to pay him off unfortunately. But yeah would definetely c-bet that flop :)

Yes maybe a c-bet should been in place. But if I c-bet I don't really know if it is for Value or its a bluff? Generally when I decide to bet I want that point to be clear. When a Q lads on the Flop - my JJ is now not the strongest holding in many cases.

Thank you for your time!

agreed its more a c-bet to just hope you can take it down there and then and if he calls/raises u find out where u are in the hand

Hi,i think you played ok,

but i would bet on flop, as you was the aggressive pre-flop,he would probably think you had Q,and maybe folded, you said he was an agressive player, and you show exactly this,he played too bit of agressive with a pair of 2,its pretty hard to know he would play with that hand after your bet on the turn, but i think he kinda figured you didnt had Q,but had something like A K and being high card,he thinks was winning with pair and had flush draw.

Yes, I am bit concern with if I c-bet the flop is it for value or is it a bluff - could it be seen as a bluff for the factor that it lands a Q on the flopp?

I think he will call all bets on the turn when he also receives his flush draw and I think he would have folded his 2 if he not got that one.

I could maybe have realized that he could have 2 in his range because he was a aggressive player.

Well well, it is just to learn by the mistakes.

Thank you for stopping by!

Well thought, probaly he would think you could be bluffin too.

Yea,you right, you had a bit of bad luck to land that diamond on the turn, that give him more confidence.

Thats was a hard one to figure, you have a very good hand, and i think you read that him didnt have Q so you did right to bet on turn.maybe with him big bet on river you could fold, but it was indeed a hard hand.

Glad to talk about it,thanks for share.
