Depression is never "made up"
I was actually one of those disgruntled when watching "Eat Bulaga", and one of its main host Joey De Leon stated that depression is "just made up". In Filipino, he stated "gawa-gawa lang" and was translated to "just made up". The Filipino term sounds even more hurtful than when translated in English.
Going back to Joey De Leon's careless remark on national noontime TV show, he was being corrected by his co-host Maine Mendoza that depression is a serious thing. Joey De Leon insisted that it is "just made up". I am never a fan of Maine Mendoza, even the phenomenal Aldub fever, but I was amazed on how she defended the state of depression.
Joey De Leon already apologized on his careless and offensive statement. However, it's already been said. Insisting that it is "just made up" after being corrected added insult to injury. He is tactless towards depression sufferers.
The positive thing about his offensive remark? At least he was finally corrected, and that depression is a serious mental condition, and it is not a subject for humor. The condition should never be considered a laughing stock.
Nobody knows how's depression is like, until they has it
What I can say for people laughing or criticizing towards depression, they will never know how it's like being in such state, unless they are stuck in it. Do they mean they are laughing at people who killed themselves because depression? Are they laughing at Chester Bennington of Linkin Park when he died? People are in different state of mind. Even depressed people do not think alike. But what makes them similar is they were stuck in a mental condition which they can't hardly control.
Again, depression is NEVER MADE UP.

I'm speaking based on experience and I too...was kind of disappointed on Joey's comment. As a person who suffered from depression for years, it is very painful to hear such things. You can never explain how it feels until it hits you. Thank you, Iyan for this!
Thanka po ate. Kaso nakakainis yung isang nagkomento sa baba. Napakataklesa.
Freaking 1000000% agree. What an idiot for saying that.

So what are you going to do about it? Take useless meds and talk to a therapist that never gives you the solution so he can take your money?
You would do better working for a better life instead of writing here that it is never made up, you didn't help anybody with that.
(I had depression for 12 years and I cured it by throwing meds away, flipping therapist the finger and becoming what people label "toxic masculinity" and laughing about depression.
Crying about it, labeling yourself victim might give you points in a feminist weak society, but it won't help you personally.
If you find this offensive you are proving my points.
If you had depression, okay. But you don't speak for the majority of the depressed people. What I am stating here is the comment of a TV host in our country, and I doubt you read it entirely before making your comments. By the way, may you have continuous inner peace.
Thank you Ivan. Just don't label yourself victim and do what it takes to improve your life and you will be fine, even if other people label you ill.
I am doing everything to improve my life. I know I can. I am just glad that the co-host of the show is sympathetic. And yeah, I haven't had consulted a doctor yet. I am doing things naturally, and consulting a doctor will only be my last resort. I am trying my best to divert my attention to somewhat positive. I just don't like labeling, and this world is full of people with irrational thinking. But okay, it's up to them. I have my opinions that I want to be respected, and I respect other people's too. Though, there is responsibility on what's needed to stated or not.
By the way, thank you.
:-)
I for one has been experiencing depression. I could not fathom how careless Joey has been. Well at least to those who also think that Depression is just made up, well, they were also somehow enlightened.
I did n0t personally watch the sh0w when j0ey spoke about it. I only kn0wn bout it fr0m the news and when it g0t viral. Anyway, deppressi0n is n0t a laughing matter because as i personally experienced mild deppressi0n because of problems at work and c0mbine that with h0me problems. If I d0n't have God to tell my problems to then I could have ended my life. Pe0ple with weak mindset take suicide. Those are the one's who should have been helped by others if we had kn0wn they have deppressi0n. H0pe that m0dern techn0l0gy c0uld help us understand this disease and how we could prevent the ones' having this from ending their own lives.
great content!
True that it was not made up. He might be just joking cause there were comedians suffer from depression and not sure how common is that to them.
