Once upon a time is NOW. All stories have a beginning... this is mine: Martial arts, Philosophy, Science and Adventure.

About a month ago, a thoughtful friend recommended Steemit, suggesting that it would be a good fit for me since I have always enjoyed writing down my thoughts and ideas, my experiences and my personal view of the world. After exploring some of the content produced by its very enthusiastic users and learning about how Steemit works, I was eager to take part in it! However, nothing worth having comes easy - and the long waiting time to finally get my account approved seems to be a testament to that! Therefore I want to thank @theprophet0 for rescuing me from the "awaiting approval" limbo so I could finally get into the party with all the cool people... So, let's get started!

Some facts about myself:

Here in Steemit I will go by the name of Irime (pronounced E-ree-meh).

Currently, I am a PhD student in the field of Molecular Biology and (crossing fingers!) I will be finishing my doctoral work this year.

My mother language is Spanish, I am also fluent in English and currently struggling to learn German – those who have been in my position can surely feel my pain!

Born and bred in Mexico, I moved to Germany a few years ago, in pursue of graduate studies and adventure. It was the best decision I have ever made. Now I live in Berlin, a city that stimulates my mind and spirit every day with its inexhaustible display of cultural wealth and vibrant eccentricity.

Some of the things that I am passionate about and most likely will find their way into my posts here on Steemit:

• Constant evolution, setting new projects and challenges for myself. I like having something to look forward to, always!

• Reading on philosophy, mysticism, science fiction and psychology to challenge my vision of life and the way I experience and interact with the world.

•  Martial arts – I have always been fascinated by them. Currently I am a very enthusiastic practitioner of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing (Muay Thai and Savate, I also have a background in Taekwondo). 

• Researching ways to optimize my physical and mental performance through nutrition and exercise; I think of myself as my own experimental subject, with the goal of transforming myself into a lean, mean, fighting machine. I have tried several types of exercise regimes and nutritional approaches. Currently, I have been following a ketogenic diet for over a year, and my training is focused on endurance plus strength training.

• Watching diverse films: I got to admit that I spend a big part of my free time consuming films and some series. I just can't get enough, there's so much interesting stuff there!

• Traveling – who doesn’t? That feeling of stepping into a different place, taking in the beauty with fresh eyes, marveling at the differences with your own life experience so far and cherishing the similarities.

Somehow it feels like I usually discover or start doing something at a point when it is slightly too late for me to become truly competitive at it. However, it would seem that I found out about Steemit at a very exciting time: a time of growth and creative expansion – I feel very excited to be a part of it! 

Looking forward to start sharing and interacting with other Steemians, I feel like this is the beginning of a new challenge and adventure!
