The American media? idgaf.

What tires me endlessly these days is the way that the media, especially the elite media, think the conversations they are having are the ones that matter to most Americans. Today's example: the NY Times saying that the Chinese dress kerfuffle has stirred "a furor in the US." REALLY?

1. I'm guessing most Americans have no idea what the issue in question is all about.

2. If said Americans were presented with the story, my guess is that the vast majority would think, as I do, "what a gorgeous dress! What exactly is the problem?"

So what's the nature of the supposed "furor" sweeping the country? It's media types and other intellectuals reading the Twitter feeds of their peers in one very small circle jerk of a conversation. Outside of that little club, no one gives a shit.

The Big Media and the Twitterati have gone so far past gazing at their own navels that they've managed to get their heads stuck up their digital asses. If they can ever perform an extraction, maybe we'll get stories that actually matter in world where liberal institutions are under threat like never before. And maybe we'll stop equating "the US" with a thin slice of folks on either coast whose material and social status enables them to spend their time worrying about a Chinese prom dress rather than the whole host of real and serious issues that most Americans are concerned with.

Shit like this is the best distraction Cheeto Mussolini and his gang of thugs could ever hope for.
