The 1% grabbed 82% of all wealth created in 2017.

"The 1% grabbed 82% of all wealth created in 2017."

No doubt some of that wealth was "grabbed" as the result of government-granted privileges or direct political expropriation, but a lot of it was justly earned as part of a mutually beneficial process of exchange. That people can only think in terms of wealth being "grabbed" (from whom?) indicates the zero or even negative-sum thinking that is the core fallacy believed by critics of market economies.

True markets create wealth that did not previously exist and thereby benefit not just those who receive the income but those of us who get the products of that creativity. People who become wealthy from creating goods and providing services (including financial services) that consumers willingly pay for, and who do so without government-granted privileges, have not taken anything from anyone. They have made themselves and those who benefit from what they sell better off in ways they would not have been otherwise.

To see all of the rich's wealth as "grabbed" (from whom again?) without any benefit to others is the economic equivalent of geo-centricism as well as a moral horror.
