Bernie's Stop Bezos Act.
Bernie’s Stop BEZOS Act (yes he really called it that, complete with insufferable contrived acronym) is, in essence, a heavy punitive tax on employing poor people. You’re not helping, man.
If we really wanted to do something about poverty, the best thing we could do is end the welfare-cliff poverty trap that imposes on some lower income ranges an effective marginal tax rate at or even exceeding 100%.
This isn’t even a hard change to make. All we’d need to do is make losing eligibility for benefits more gradually phased out as income increases, so that the effective marginal tax rate never exceeds some percentage ceiling. No need to go full UBI or increase overall spending, and it would make a radical difference for upward income mobility... but the downside is you don’t get to join Trump in attacking Jeff Bezos, I guess.
