Federation square is the closest things that Melbourne Australia has to a town square or piazza, unlike European cities though it's very modern (built nominally for the 100 year anniversary of the federation of Australia in 1901) it ran late and didn't actually open until the end of 2002.

It's a series of angular buildings around an open square - made up triangles and shapes it is endless angles, it's best viewed in fragments rather than a whole, due to it's position there is no way to get a view of the whole things. It's perfect for a person who likes that sort of thing.
