Tinseltown's Masonic Temple
When it comes to Hollywood landmarks, few are as grand than the Masonic Temple on Hollywood Boulevard Between Highland and La Brea. Designed by architects Austin, Field & Fry (Shrine Auditorium, Griffith Observatory and Los Angeles City Hall) in a Greek Revival style, the three story edifice was completed in 1922. The temple was well equipped with a billiard room, pipe organ, ladies parlor, and ballroom. (Photo 1922)
Also of note in this photo are the elegant five globe streetlights in use downtown at the time. If you look carefully at the photos in this series, you will see several styles of streetlamps from simple two light designs to these elaborate pigeon perches.
The building still exists. It is now the home of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. If a building can feel embarrassment, this one is hiding its face in shame.

These Masonic 'temples' all look the same to me - the one in T.O. was called the Rockpile at one point, featuring heavy metal bands - I haven't checked lately what it's new incarnation is, but it's bound to be better than what it originally was. I oppose secret societies.
