Life drawing: Female Nude In Recline
Charcoal on Strathmore Bristol Vellum.
15" x 9" / 38cm x 23cm

Hey everyone, i've included a few step by step images below.
Just like the blockchain will change the world, "blocking in" will change your drawings!
Start with a loose gesture to find the key points, block in the dark masses, push the mass into position and then begin to refine! You can do it, practise, practise, practise!

Thank You!
Sometimes it's what you don't draw that can also make a beautiful image.

once you learn to draw you must then learn to not draw

I never thought of it that way!

It took me a while to understand it myself and apply it to my work. The brain will naturally fill in detail that's not there if given enough clues. Rather than drawing all the details available and forcing it into the viewers eyes, allowing them to fill in those details subconsciously will help them connect to artwork on another level.
Sometimes, less is more. :)

Wow excellent work, I'll definitely try this.

you sure can do some awesome stuff with charcoal. i would use it but its a little too messy for me. keep it up!

Thanks. I dont think i could do your style very well, it takes a good eye to see an image like you do. I need to make a mess first and then sort out the chaos.

hah my style is just an outline with some of the less important lines or lost edges left out. 60 second speed drawings of faces mostly. my secret is to have done thousands of them. i bet you could do them as good or better than i can with only a single sketchbook of practice.

i used to do much more rendering, i especially liked how the light/shadow line defines shape and texture. with my current style i almost never do any shading anymore. i am trying to learn watercolor so i will get back into it soon.

i only started using pen because i felt i was erasing too much and i watched a couple kim jung gi videos and got super jealous.

his most recent submission to youtube

If you could find a good pen that won't bleed in water, adding some select watercolours to your sketches would be pretty great. Maybe even a bleeding ink could make some nice effects in some areas.
Its a great technique you've developed, its very difficult to stand out with a unique styling and it only comes from whittling away it. Its a good example of refinement, has that Japanese aesthetic.
I'll have to keep watching and try some pen work - i like the sound of getting a good result in 60 seconds!

I finally included your drawing in the first exhibition of the SGoA. Come and have a look!
