One-Day Trip On A Little Estonian Island

A couple days back I went on a little one-day car trip with friends. I had this idea in my mind about 3 months till I was finally able to go by car. We had to wait because I wanted to drive over the sea with a car not taking a trip with a ship. You can see my previous post here, how I drove my car over the frozen sea.

Anyway, my destination was this little Estonian island named Vormsi. It is the fourth largest island in Estonia and when I say largest, it really isn't large. You can drive from one side to another only in 30 minutes with a car. There are not very much people living there, 415 people and only 214 of them live there all year around.

When we finally arrived, I immediately saw that... a quiet island, my ass. Many people had come to see this place because you could drive there by car. 3 years back in the summer I went on a biking trip with my friends on this island and I remember that you could hardly see any traffic at all.

My first destination was a lighthouse in Saxby beach. To my surprise, the sea was not frozen there.

One of the things I really enjoyed on this island was the roads. They were really curvy and smooth to drive, just pure joy.

While driving, I noticed a herd of beef cattle and knew I had to take some photos of them. They are cool animals but they smell bad.

Since we had to eat something, we decided to visit the place where the only food store on this island exists. This town is named Hullo and it is considered as the capital of Vormsi. I think there were only about 15 houses in total, including one middle school.

Finally, when we were done with shopping and a little walking tour in the capital I decided to go and visit the peninsula 15 kilometers away. I have been there before and knew the scenery there is amazing and it is possible to get good photos. We drove as far as we could until I had to ditch the car and go on by foot.

Would you say that all this white smooth area is actually frozen sea? It doesn't look like it yeah, to me it looks like a massive grass field.

One problem I soon realized was that we had to walk 45 minutes to reach the top of the peninsula and then back. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for that because otherwise, we would have got stuck on this island. Ice road closes when the weather starts to go dark. So we walked back to the car and started driving towards the ice road again.

It was really fun and awesome car trip + experience of driving on ice road for the first time.
