My doge can be a weirdo sometimes
Like most dog owners that have trained their animals well, my dog pretty much has free reign of the house because I know she isn't going to do any damage.. She has never chewed up anything in her life that she wasn't allowed to and only got into the trash once and to be fair that was my fault because i put chicken wings in a very low lying trash can. No dog could resist that temptation.
Anyway, for some reason she thinks she is not allowed to go up the stairs without permission.
My office is upstairs but like most houses the kitchen and living room is downstairs. When I go upstairs, if I don't beckon her to follow she just sits there, patiently.... for a while
After a few minutes she will start to growl and whine a bit... not like in an irritating persistent way but just enough to let me know that she is there. Then i whistle or use baby-voice and she proceeds to the next landing
And there she would remain, presumably until the end of time, unless i beckon her to the top of the stairs. At this point i reward her bravery with a treaty-pie that she is really excited to receive (as you would expect.)
Then she will go out on the front balcony where she can keep the perimeter safe by letting me know if anyone gets near the house or if any cats make a sound anywhere in the neighborhood.
The funny thing about this is that the same "I need permission before I use the stairs" doesn't exist in reverse as she always follow me down without being told. Somehow, she has gotten the impression that upstairs if off limits unless she is told to come up there. She has never left the upstairs before me. Maybe she is just making sure I am safe (cute.) Oh well, it isn't annoying at all, I think it is endearing. I have a very well-behaved doggo and she can do whatever she wants :)
I was going to say you're lucky to have such a well trained dog but that's not luck. You were smart to train her, now you can enjoy her company and you can lay back knowing she won't do any damage to anything or anyone.
How many dog owners I've seen who couldn't care less about training their dogs, then when the dog took over and destroyed everything, they got rid of the dog.
I'm always saying dogs should be owned by those who are willing to train them.
She's nice by the way.
You are lucky to have a very kind dog, Sir. Dogs are the most loyal animals in the world. Even it is ready to die for his owner. Unfortunately my religion forbids us from raising dogs at home. If it's not prohibited, surely the dog will be the first animal that will be my pet.

Yes .. my friend, my religion, Islam forbids raising dogs at home. But may be maintained outside the home such as farms to look after livestock. The reason is because its saliva contains germs .

Our dog will lay at the top of the stairs and look out the front door at everything that happens in the neighborhood. Like your dog, she hasn't chewed on anything she wasn't supposed to since she was a puppy and she gets free reign of the house. Just when we think we have learned her favorite place to lay she surprises us by picking someplace new.
yep. dogs are the best. I don't know if i am lucky or if i just have a way with them but I have never had a "bad" dog. I know friends of mine whose animals are just one nightmare after the next as far as tearing up their house / yard is concerned.
Our dog used to dig a little but not too bad and she hasn't done that since we moved to our new house. She is a rescue dog and definitely has a distinct personality as well as some anxiety and trauma from when she was abandoned as a puppy.

That is well rained and that is a sign of respect for you as well. I wish mine were that well trained as the one whines when you are in bed to check if you are sleeping or not. If there is no response she hops up. They are also well behaved though.
Yours is like a companion for you and I know you take Doge most places as you even take her on your bicycle. She is lucky to have you and you her.

A cat making a sound near your balcony would be the greatest of offenses. She's protecting your honor ;)
(My dogs eat cat poop if given the opportunity, so clearly they are very confused about honor.)
I am more of a cat person and they never gave a fuck about stairs or if they were allowed in any room.
