Saint Nicholas Day Spam

The Czech Republic is known as one of the most atheist countries worldwide. It is most definitely true. However, we still celebrate Saint Nicholas Day, a feast that quite surprisingly survived the communist rule, which was otherwise oppressing any religious activities.

On the 5th of December, Saint Nicholas walks on the streets accompanied by an angel and a devil rewarding kind kids with fruits and candies. The bad ones, such me for instance, get coal. The legend says that Saint Nicolas was a Greek bishop who secretly supported poor young people, especially newly-weds. Christian ones, of course.

The tradition has evolved a lot and nowadays the group looks like this:

When they meet a kid, they ask for a poem or a song and give some candy for exchange. The devil usually threatens kids with hell. As I never was a well-behaved child, the devil once shoved me into his sack pretending that he takes me to the hell unless I change myself and swear to be good. I rejected that looking forward seeing hell, which must be such an interesting place for a six years old brat. Instead, he just took me of the house and dumped me of his sack. I felt cheated. But cheating seems to be the nature of evil spirits, so I should had expected such trick.

Anyway, I always got some candies and oranges at the and. Somehow the Saint Nicolas let me those behind the window. Yes, good old Saint Nicolas.

Today, I received the very first Saint Nicolas Day spam. More than two months before the event itself. It said that “Saint Nicolas brings it to the nicest kids”. “It” stood for some smart watch in that case.

Well, I still look young (especially when I don’t forget to shave my face), so I started to learn a poem. You know, I wouldn’t do so for a chocolate figure. I am still a brat but I can pretend to be a good guy.

Mikulášský spam

Asi vám nemusím překládat, jak je to s Mikulášem v Česku. Tak jen v kostce. Když jsem byl malý, byl jsem pěkný spratek. Jednou mě čert naložil do pytle a hrozil mi odnosem do pekel. Snad jen kdybych slíbil, že už budu hodný, pustil by mě. Důrazně jsem to odmítl, neb jsem se těšil na peklo, které je pro šestiletého spratka dozajista zajímavým místem. Ale on mě jen vynesl před dům a z pytle mě zase vysypal. Cítil jsem se podveden. Ale podvádění je zřejmě povahovým rysem zlých duchů, takže jsem takový podraz mohl očekávat.

Každopádně jsem vždycky nakonec nějaké ty sladkosti dostal. Mikuláš mi je nějakým způsobem zanechal za oknem. Ano, starej dobrej Mikuláš.

Dneska jsem dostal první mikulášský spam v životě. Víc než dva měsíce před Mikulášem. "Mikuláš to přinese hodným dětem", zněl předmět. Ukázalo se, že zájmeno "to" v tomto případě nahrazuje chytré hodinky.

Inu, stále ještě vypadám mladě (hlavně když se nezapomenu oholit), tak jsem se začal učit básničku. Jasně, pro čokoládovou figurku bych to nedělal. Ale jsem stále ještě spratek, a tak umím předstírat, že jsem vlastně hodný kluk.
