Ulog # 25: Monkeys Sanctuary in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental ,Philippines
How do you spend your quality time with your family?Do you still have time to go out and have some family bonding?
As a Freelancer,I have this idea to travel anywhere I want.I like to travel and explore places riding with my motorcycle scooter.I love nature and I'm an animal lover.Unplanned and undecided. We arrived in Sta. Catalina,Negros Oriental together with my wife and my eldest son.We visited their Monkey Sanctuary. Wow,it was a very amazing trip!
These photos were taken before we reached the Monkey Sanctuary.
We crossed on a metal hanging bridge for us to arrived in the place. There's a small river and were sorrounded with nature.
As we were about to approached,my eldest son can't wait to see these clever and smart animals.I think we're almost there because there were sounds of monkeys already.
Wow!Finally,we arrived in the place. It was calm and peaceful. We never saw them at first. When the caretaker called and made a voice signalling technique ,they immediately showed up.
Monkeys really like
bananas. When I interviewed the caretaker there he said that, these monkeys don't only eat bananas but they eat all crops in the place.Household owners who were living near the monkey sanctuary got angry because even their papayas, coconuts, and even their food on the table will be eaten. So the government decided to give these monkeys a monthly food maintenance so that they will not get hungry and will not damage the crops near the place.
As far as I know, this is the only Monkey Sanctuary on Negros Oriental in which monkeys were not in cage. They just freely walk around the place. They are more than 100 plus estimated population as of December 2018.These monkeys were just being neglected by the government in the late 1980's.Kaingeros just killed them and shooted them especially if they don't have enough food on the table. They made monkeys as their vian.Since there was a law that prohibits killing of animals,so they remained.
Visitors were advised to bring bananas and any foods for the monkeys food maintenance and a little donations as well. The Local Government Unit of Sta. Catalina in cooperation with the Province of Negros Oriental in order for this Monkey Sanctuary will be preserved and maintain so that children in today's generation can still see real and alive monkeys.
