Shoreham-By-Sea From Across The River

You should be getting a good idea of this place by now. 😁

Notice the Church? This is St Mary De Haura Church which I've posted about before but now we're looking at it, in a northerly direction, from the other side of the river.

Do you remember the foot bridge? Well, this is the other side of it.

Sort:

the beached boats are a nice touch. good photo @gillianpearce. low tide? or boats beached for repair (abandonment? haha)? maybe both low tide and boats pulled up away from the water. Nice view of Shoreham from this side of the river.

It's not low tide @steven-patrick. When it is there is just a small channel of water in the middle of the water that you see in this photograph. 😁

Interesting how the boats have been left. How do they get them back into the water? Nice composition, with the stone path cutting across the image, too.

I imagine on a very high tide those boats at the back, closest to the viewer, would float but I don't think they've been used in a long time.

The one with the path going to it actually had the door open so someone may have been on it that afternoon. Obviously it's closer to the water so could be more easily moved but, again, it didn't look very seaworthy so maybe the owner is either restoring it or just likes to hang out on it. 😁

Oh, no! Somebody pulled the plug on the tide! The boats lost in tideless water are a great foil for the citiscape.

Well done!

Well the interesting thing @dswigle, is that the tide is actually quite high in this picture. When it is low is turns into a very small channel of water in the middle of the water that you see there. 😁

Such a beautiful and relaxing place, Gillian! Love the slightly pink tones of the clouds too!

Such a beautiful and relaxing place

It's interesting how this photograph seems to convey this @nolasco as it's a very busy place. 😁

Marina, yacht club, busy industrial port, massive housing boom! 😂

No one would tell, just figure! Photography as also this magic power... of transformation!

Indeed @nolasco. This one was quite a transformation, looking at what people say they saw, in the comments. 😊

It looks so peaceful there Gillian.

It might look peaceful @sunscape but it isn't really. It's very busy.

They've massively expanded the housing there in the last decade. Probably doubled the number of people, at least. Plus it has a busy yacht club, marina and port.

That's why the grave yard and church as such a lovely find. They are a haven of peace within all the bustle.

Wow, you so don't get all that from the photo for sure.

Looks like a pretty peaceful place! If it's the same Shoreham I'm thinking of, there was a glassworks by the beach and you can still find pieces of old colored glass on the beach, now all rounded and polished by a century in the water.

=^..^=

there was a glassworks by the beach

Really @curatorcat. I've never heard of that. I'll have to investigate. 😁
