Trees Across The Road
Most of the avenues and roads in Hove are tree lined. I'm not sure how far ahead the city planners were thinking when many of the trees were planted.
Look at the size of this one for example. It is fairly typical and and already it is up to the roof line of a five floor building.
It's roots have infiltrated the paving stones to such as extent that the slabs have had to be removed and replaced by tarmac. But they are still growing and now they are coming through the tarmac too.
Looking at the roots from the road side you can see where they have grown over the granite curb stone and trapped it underneath.
Most of the time the buildings are big enough that the trees don't do too much serious damage but the roots have sometimes found their way into the sewer tunnels and that can cause all sorts of problems.
I love seeing them in the city though and their size is visually pleasing. I'm just not sure the physical/structural ramifications were really thought through. 😁

Wow... The planning committee wasn't planning ahead, were they? Roots coming through the basement walls might pose a structural problem or, at the very least, let water in.
They did something similar here in the town I live in, planting trees under the power lines. Now, the power lines go through the trees. With heavy snows, I'm surprised they don't lose power more often.
You would like Calle Porvera in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. It has trees all along both sides of the street, providing much welcome shade on those blistering summer days.
