Brugge v Brussels Surprise

My second postcard in my postcard stories series is of Brugges, Belgium.

It was a place I'd wanted to visit for the longest time so when some friends of ours from the States told us they would be visiting Europe, but not the UK, we agreed to meet in Belgium.

The plan was to stay in Bruges but I left it too late to find reasonably priced accommodation so we ended up staying in Brussels.

We travelled to Bruges by train, took a trip on the canals and did the usual sight-seeing stuff. But, although we thoroughly enjoyed it, we were surprised to discover that we actually enjoyed Brussels more.

More real. Less touristy.

We weren't intending on spending much time in Brussels but we loved it so much we spent more time there than we did in Brugges.

There seems to be a surprise around every corner.

There were many beautiful Churches, including one with a Micheangelo in it that I'd never heard of. There were parks with really interesting statues, beautiful buildings in general, galleries and exhibitions and it was all walkable.

I'm sending this postcard to the friends we made the trip with. I'm sure it will a happy reminder for them of a fun time spent together. 😍
