It didn't take long for Leah to acclimate herself, to the South, the house and to her new routine. She awoke early, enjoying the morning quite and helping Sam fix whatever she could. The afternoons came with long walks on the main street and a tour around the little town as she took each day as it came. She hadn't had much to eat the previous day after her visit to the brewery so Sam had taken it upon himself to prepare breakfast of coffee and bacon.

" Good morning " Sam greeted and Leah responded with a smile that completed the sunshine.
" did you have a goodnight rest ? " he asked.
Leah took a seat and popped one of the fresh berries into her mouth " I can sleep anywhere " she said reaching for the syrup as he handed her a plate stacked with pancakes.
" Great, that means you would enjoy our camping trip " he said pouring a cup of coffee and taking the seat opposite her.
" I have never camped out before " she said
"That makes much more fun for both of us "
Leah paused to think for a moment. Camping wasn't such a bad idea, besides she had to familiarize herself with the entire town before the resort started to entertain guests again.
" You have absolutely nothing to be afraid of "Sam said smiling. This was going to be so much fun.

Fun was an understatement for Leah. The walk started out perfectly fine the next day, It was morning and the rays of sunlight created a perfect scenery of nature. realization hit when they had to hop over creeks using slippery stones and hike up up steep inclines. It had been past an hour and she thought she seen the worse of it all until she took a step and sank deep knee into swampy water.

The ecstatic look of amusement on Samuel's face and sound of his laughter had her blushing as he reached out a hand to pull her out. Speak of embarrassment. She was wet and smelly by the time they made it to a clearer no swamp zone and made a camp fire.
Leah sat leg crossed across from Sam. She had used the last of their water to clean the little she could of her legs and shoes, the rest would just have to wait till they were back home. Home !!. She had started to think of this little town and it's people as home. She wished it would all last forever. This perfect little safe haven she had found here, far from all she knew. But experience had taught her quite a few lessons. Nothing lasted as long as forever. She had learned that the hard way and that lesson would remain with her through the rest of her life. She still had nightmares when she closed her eyes sometimes. Images and memories of that time haunting her, sometimes she heard the mockery in his voice as he taunted her and hurt her. That was all in the past now, she was gone and he could never find her.
With a sigh she looked up to see Sam studying her closely, her heart skipped a little and she shook her head lightly.
"What is it ? "
" Just wondering, what had you so lost in thoughts "
Leah gave a small smile, " You've had me wondering to " she replied.
he laughed and relaxed, resting his back against the tree " What is it you wish to know mademoiselle " he said in a perfect french accent that had her laughing.
" There was a picture of you and a little girl near the fire stand "
" I was married....... Her name was Sarah " he said quietly."
" What happened ? " she asked
" My daughter, Laura, she .... she passed away " he said emotion clogging his voice
" Lung cancer........she was five "
Her heart went out to him. Her mother had died of cancer. " I'm sorry "
"You don't have to be "
"Everyone had pitied us for a very long time and Sarah could never get over Laura's death as things began to go sideways for us " he explained.
"I didn't know how to console her, hell I hadn't even come to terms with my own grief "
Leah could picture what had gone wrong, and sadly she understood so well.
they were both silent for a while before Sam added " Sometimes I feel i shouldn't have let go, I spent the last few years regretting that very decision "
He told her the truth, and it made Leah feel guilty because every thing about her was a lie. She had made up all of it and knew that Sam would never forgive her when he found that but that didn't stop the feeling of fondness and attachment she felt by the second.
he had been staring at her through the rest of the day on their way back and his gaze was so heated, it felt like he was peeling off her layers of covering. She avoided his gaze and his touch when he made attempts to help her up or cross over a hollow end. The last thing she needed right now was falling for the blue eyed southerner.
