Prologue
Part one

()
Freshly baked bacon was not a bad thing to wake up to but it became a problem when it was all she had eaten for the past six days. Aside from sea food take out they had ordered at nights. Samuel Bower turned out to be a horrible cook as well as a bad host. She hadn't seen much of him since she came because aside from loning all he did was work.
Today, she had a better plan she had managed to get out of bed early and thank goodness she didn't feel so nauseous and tired. She had showered and begun her self tour of her grandmother's house. Technically her house by right but since no one knew that yet and she had no intention of owning it she made due of the bedroom in the attic. Walking towards the main corridor that led to the kitchen she heard Sam whistling to himself as he went about his business, he occupied the master bedroom and since the rest of the house was still under re-construction, he had asked her to stay a few more days in the attic. Leah didn't mind.
The living room had been re-designed to his taste. It had sisal hints and marsh grasses that made cleaning the rugs easy. An alligator skull that spoke volumes on local wild life had replaced the big elk anther trophy her grandmother had hung on the wall. The couch had palms in antique glass and fern patterned pillows that gave it a fresh southern look and no personal belongings like pictures were in sight. The wall was just plain white.
Moving on to the next room, it used to be her grandfathers study before he had passed away, her mom had told her all there was to know about Stanley Fischer. Founder and owner of dreams reserve, he had invested his life and everything into seeing that the wide expanse of land didn't go to waste. Of course he had gotten supports and loans from banks and building agencies to make the place what it was and it had been booming for a long time even after he passed away at age seventy, his wife Maria had saw to it that the Family business flourished until she had passed away to and there had been no one to leave it to. Her only child and Leah's mother Annabelle had wanted nothing to do with the life of a small town and she had followed her own path after giving birth to Leah. She didn't know her father and didn't have a chance to since her mother had also never been there to tell her what he looked like. She had been too busy jumping in and out of marriages till she had also passed away.
She walked back to where Samuel was and stood by the doorway, arms crossed she asked
" Do you always work alone ? "
Samuel turned to face her and gave a small smile " I always prefer to "
" Haven't you heard the phrase about team work ? " she asked again bending to pick up the nut he had dropped.
Samuel accepted it and raised a eye brow " You wouldn't know anything about fixing pipes and re- constructing a house now would you ? "
" I do know a lot about guides though " she said smiling
" There hasn't been much visitor's at the reserve lately, since the owner's passed on "
" It was willed to you ? "
Sam bent over and twisted the pipes to fit perfectly " No.. I am more like a care taker, she had no next of kin sadly " he replied
Leah nodded " So why don't you just get someone to fix it up... I mean this really a lot of hard work you doing here "
Samuel shook his head " It's more like passing time for me " he said and then dusted his palms together signifying he was done.
" What's a pregnant lady doing so far south all alone ? " he asked his gaze fixated on her.
Leah tensed and tried to give a small laugh " You don't have to answer that "
he said noticing and bent to pick up his tools.
" I'll be heading out soon, you could join me for the ride i'll show ya around " he offered
" that'd be nice " she said watching him leave.
She hadn't planned to be rude, but the question had come without a warning. Guess she should have expected that, it was a small town and small town's came with gossips. So when a pregnant young lady shows up everyone was bound to ask questions.
Leah had thought of what her story would be all along. She was a widow that needed a change of scenario. No one needed to know what her past was about, no one except her.
Shopping had been really exhausting, especially with a man who didn't have the slightest clue on the kind of groceries needed in a house or what was needed to prepare the simplest of meals. He showed her the town's church and the local film house, they passed by the sheriff's station to on their way back home and Samuel had taken another route showing her the school, the park.
It had gotten more interesting when he had stopped by Greg's place and his wife had handed them a cook out and a pack of ginger ale on their way home and it wasn't until after they had had dinner and sat by the fire place did she notice the picture at the fire stand. It was of him and a little girl. She had the same bright eyes and gold locks like him and her smile was brilliant too. Gently, Leah touched her stomach lightly, she was having a baby to someday, a little tiny creature and she would have the opportunity to take lots of photos with he or she whichever one she had.

The next time she opened here eyes it was to the sound of plates clattering together. She threw back the covers on her body an yawned she she walked into the kitchen to see Sam with a frown on his face as he tried to figure out what to do with the the eggs in the bowl he held.
" if you are thinking about bacon i would really disagree " Leah said making him raise his head up to look at her.
She had slept off the previous night on the couch while he had been going through the local news on the papers and he had noticed how she curled herself into a ball, her hand on her little baby bump.
" I was thinking more along the lines of scrambled eggs but i just can't figure out a way to do it "
Leah laughed " If you aren't much of a southern man why didn't you just get yourself a wife ? "
She asked collecting the whisk from him and picking one egg from the bowl, she broke into another and whisked it with skill before realizing that she had asked a personal question.
Color rushed to her face as she began to apologize when Sam cut her off with his reply. " I was married once ".
She noticed how his expression changed with his reply and a feeling of guilt washed over her
" I didn't mean to pry "
Samuel laughed gently " We all have our off limits Leah "
It was the first he had called her directly by her name and it had a weird feel to it. The scrambled eggs was ready and Sam helped bring out the bread they had gotten the previous day from the local bakery. She wondered if any part of him remembered her, and the time they had spent together here when they had been younger. She didn't think he did, besides she was completely different now. Physically, she had changed her once red hair was now chestnut brown after continous dyeing and her brown eyes were lightened by contacts she never forgot to wore. An attempt to run away from a horrible past. Emotionally she didn't figure she had changed much, after all that had happened to her, coming back here and spending few days she was beginning to feel her attachment build again and she kept wandering to herself why she had risked all odds to come back here.
